The SAP LeanIX Stay Certified Course

Welcome

Hello and welcome to your SAP LeanIX stay certified course. This course serves as repetition of the learning Journey: "Learning to Use the SAP LeanIX Tool for Successful Enterprise Architecture" and allows you to stay certified as a SAP LeanIX Certified Associate, Enterprise Architecture Consultant. Let's jump right in.

Key Fact Sheet Types

Let's start with a quick recap on the most common fact sheet types of meta model: Application, Business capability and Organization.

Application

Application builds the center of SAP LeanIX meta model. They process or analyze business data, support tasks and processes within an organization and rely on various IT components, such as software and hardware, to function effectively. When it comes to modeling they should be chosen based on their relevance and understanding among all stakeholders and the initial focus should be on high-level information. Detailed application modeling can follow, allowing for a comprehensive understanding over time.

Business Capability

Business capabilities form the foundation of any business architecture. They are stable building blocks that define what an organization does. As the first step, we need to establish a sound business capability model. To help you with that, we have already compiled a business capability catalog from numerous industries that you can use. From our experience with our customers, you should start off with building a hierarchy in your business capability map that has no more than two levels. The simple reason is that managing more hierarchies can be complex to maintain, which results in slower adoption and time to value. This, especially, becomes evident when you start linking business capabilities to applications. Since every business capability that you introduce needs to be mapped to an application.

Organizations

Organizations represent the users or owners of Applications that can be modeled within different dimensions to create hierarchical structures. Organizations can be a business unit, customer, region, location. You can use Fact Sheet subtypes to reflect different types of organizational elements in LeanIX. Please keep in mind that it is not a must to have all of your Organizations defined right from the start. As a best practice, we recommend to choose a two dimensions. Even if there is a perceived need to cover more, remember that the application owners have to maintain the mapping. Getting one group right is better than having two or more incomplete or inaccurate ones.

You should also be familiar with some additional fact sheet types: IT component, tech category, initiatives and platform.
