Presenting Customer References

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain customer references.

Customer References

The image below displays a map of defense customer locations.

The image shows a world map with countries highlighted in shades of blue. There are logos displayed below the map representing various national defense organizations.

Defense Customer Overview and Defence Interest Group

The image is an infographic that highlights various aspects of SAP's defense and security-specific capabilities. It includes statistics, icons, and textual information related to SAP's defense customers, industry support, and embedded best practices for military organizations.

Below the logo are national flags representing various countries, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as the NATO flag.

Cloud-based Infrastructure Management

Ministry of Defense, Department for Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services

"We are looking for a bright future with the cloud technologies to get our people mobilized with their devices to get our buildings better maintained and to have the people in a digital century - Tobias Voss, Commander German Navy"

Challenge

Digitization of the entire life cycle of the infrastructure management of the Bundeswehr from planning to the operational phase using Building Information Modelling with the IFC Standard. Improvement of the collaboration with the state building authorities, architects, engineers and constructions companies with the aim of automatically transferring the built-in database in SAP Project Intelligent Network (PIN) into the SAP S/4HANA operating systems (Plant Maintenance, Flexible Real Estate and Asset Intelligence Network).

Solution

  • SAP Enterprise Portfolio and Project Management
  • SAP Project Intelligence Network
  • SAP Asset Intelligence Network
  • SAP Asset Manager
  • SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP S/4HANA, SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW/4HANA

Outcome

Digital facility management during the whole life cycle of the complete Infrastructure of the German armed focused with validated master data from the planning and construction projects, used for location and occupancy management, maintenance with asset manager and checklists for legal checks.

The image displays the Bundeswehr logo and several statistics related to their use of SAP technology, including 12.5 million euros in reduced printing costs per year, 40,000 saved mail delivery days with a 1000 construction project, and 120,000 hours less data maintenance in the SAP Enterprise Asset Management system.

Business Challenges and Objectives

The immense number of buildings calls for completely new ways of digitization. This is not only challenging in terms of quantity, but also in terms of quality. Large quantities of rental and service contracts, service invoices and maintenance and servicing processes are maintained, updated and used daily in a uniform system by the more than 8,000 employees of the administration at local level.

Due to the high division of labor processes in the life-cycle of real estate, data is still far too often stored redundantly in different authorities in a wide variety of formats and data structures. Communication and data exchange across organizational boundaries is a considerable IT challenge.

  • Holistic digitization of the cross-organizational and cross-federal state process in federal construction (support of the entire life cycle from the determination of requirements to operation and, if necessary, later recovery for all Bundeswehr buildings)
  • Effective design of the interfaces between the federal and state administrations with the help of a central collaboration platform and use of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) method in the sense of the Building Information Management
  • Sustainable operation of the Bundeswehr real estate with consistent use of digitization in order to generate noticeable added value for the staff on site and the contractors.

Swiss Armed Forces

The image shows several people wearing military uniforms, and the text at the top of the image states The Swiss Armed Forces conducts logistics planning for operational readiness training with SAP. The image also shows a red square flag with a white cross (swiss flag), and the text Ready and capable defense written below it.

New Zealand Defence Forces

Yakka Clothing Services is a strategic partner of the New Zealand Defence Forces. New recruits try products on. After finding the right one, they walk to a clerk who notSe on a sheet of paper the size, quantity and product code of each item they ARE wearing. Once this process is completed, NZDF staff manually enter the data as purchase orders.

Once the recruit has tried on and found the right size for a variety of appropriate clothing, they use the new RFID solution by standing in front of an RFID scanner. The wristband is scanned to identify the soldier, and then the garments are scanned to identify the size and SKU (stock keeping unit) number. Each recruit's clothing entitlement is known in the system. Once the YAKKA system has accounted for all items in the entitlement, it automatically sends a purchase requisition in XML format to NZDF's SAP system, which authorizes the order and sends it back to Yakka for fulfillment via intranet.

The image shows a military service member wearing a camouflage uniform with a New Zealand flag patch. The text overlay reads Service-member centricity. The image also shows a text that reads New Zealand Defence Forces recruits get sized and equipped with their new uniforms using RFID technology with SAP and their clothing vendor.

Canadian Armed Forces

PBL - Performance Based Logistics

Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) is used by the Canadian Department of National Defence (CDND) and affiliate contractors to support operations, hosting of training material, and the recording of financial data. DRMIS also reports performance via In Service Support (ISS) to augment Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) support teams, and facilitate DRMIS and CAF's transition from fragmented software environments to a single software environment. This allows for the streamlining of processes, and reduction of costs and complexity generated by legacy systems. DRMIS is a complex SAP implementation, with 20,000+ users in Canada across a number of armed services. CDND plans to further integrate DRMIS for property and maintenance management of additional naval fleets, as well as across CAF more generally in the interests of continuity.

An aircraft with the number 903 on its fuselage is visible on the runway, with its propellers spinning. The image shows banner with text that reads The Canadian Armed Forces uses SAP to collaborate with their PBL contractors and a Canadian flag with the text Collaborative, cooperative & secure operations below it.

Swedish Armed Forces

The Swedish Armed Forces (SAF) had an existing installed base and wanted to improve cross functional integration. Specifically, they wanted to track and trace 36000 changes to the table of organization and equipment (MTOE). Their integration of SAP software solutions took 11 months.

The image shows a Canadian flag with the text Collaborative, cooperative & secure operations below it. The image also shows a banner with the Swedish flag and the text Resource stewardship, affordability & accountability. Additionally, the image depicts a soldier in military uniform operating a large firearm on what appears to be a military vehicle.
