Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Understand the scope of this course

An Introduction to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, Service

Overview of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, Service

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, service is categorized as part of the bigger line of business solution called Asset and Service Management (ASM). It contains three individual "sub" line of business solutions:

  • Asset Management (AM)
  • Field Service Management (FSM)
  • Service Management

This course focuses on Service Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition. Additionally, the integration of some service management processes within SAP S/4HANA Cloud and Field Service Management (FSM) are covered briefly.

The Service Management line of business solution is comprised of individual solution processes, or also called scope items, designed to support the core business processes that you can find in a company in the area of Service Management. Best practices related to the deployment of these solution processes have been compiled by SAP and can be found via the SAP Signavio Process Navigator (see Lesson 3 for more information about this).

  1. Three main types of service processes are distinguished: in-house repair, field service and recurring services. You can see exactly what solution processes are available to support these types of service processes.
  2. Several core solution processes support the creation of mentioned types of service processes. Examples are the creation of service contracts (3MO), service contracts containing configurable products (6GU), and procurement for service management (3NI).
  3. There are also several other scope items that enhance the core functionality of the SAP S/4HANA - Service line of business by providing support for additional processes. Examples are the scope items Warranty Claim Management - Supplier Recovery Processing (5HR) and also Warranty Claim Management - Customer Claim Processing (63Y).

The scope items mentioned in the bottom part of the diagram above (2 & 3) are of a more generic (or cross-service type) nature. They can be used to support any of the three main types of service processes mentioned. Solution processes 5HR and 63Y are examples of this.

From the Finance line of business, some scope items from the area of revenue recognition are included. For example scope item 3M4 is used when the IFRS standards are to be followed and scope item 3M5 is used when US GAAP are the standards to be followed.

The next lesson provides an overview of the solution processes included in this course and the remaining units provide more detailed descriptions of their features, use and implementation requirements.

These are denoted by an alpha-numeric code containing a combination of 3 numbers and/or letters. In this course, the terms scope item and solution process are used interchangeably. These "building blocks" are explained throughout the units in this course.

Exercises

This course provides exercises to further enhance your knowledge of SAP S/4HANA Cloud and its functionality and to experience the service processes first hand. These exercises are based on the test scripts for the various solution processes, which can be found online using the SAP Signavio Process Navigator.
