Integrating Data into SAP Analytics Cloud: Working with Models

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to integrate Data and working with Models

Introducing Models

Typically, your sports business generates a vast amount of data, such as performance data, scouting data, medical data, and much more. Instead of drowning in all that information and having to use complex database languages like SQL, you can use so-called Models. These models simplify things by organizing key aspects of your business data right within your club. So basically, it's like a condensed version of all the information your club or federation deals with.

Using the models specifically developed for SAP Sports One data, these models are relevant for the data retrieval from SAP Sports One to SAP Analytics Cloud by covering all key aspects of your business (for example Team Management, Performance Diagnostics, Scouting, Medical, and more). Using these models is important, because they form the basis for any data analysis you will perform later.

This diagram provides an overview of SAP Analytics Cloud, illustrating the flow from data sources through models to dashboards and reports, with stories containing pages of widgets like charts and maps. Data sources include HANA live connections and other sources, feeding into live data and import/planning models.

Introducing Dimensions and Measures

In SAP Analytics Cloud, data models distinguish between Dimensions and Measures to organize and analyze data effectively.

  • Dimensions serve as categorical perspectives by adding context to numeric data (for example teams, players, matches, or trainings). Dimensions are characterized by default attributes such as the ID and the description. They can also be hierarchically structured, for example, dates (year, quarter, month, day).
  • Measures represent the numerical values under analysis, such as tracking and performance data, questionnaire results, and more.

Together, dimensions and measures form the foundation for data visualization and enabling insights for Sports data to optimize team performance. While models can incorporate any number of dimensions and measures, optimizing performance can be the additional challenge.

Providing Overview of Available Models for SAP Sports One

By default, there are many SAP Sports One live data models in your SAP Analytics Cloud system available. The process of integrating and exporting data, for example, the import of models in SAP Analytics Cloud is covered in the unit Reusing SAP Reference Content.

These live data models are available for all areas of SAP Sports One. An overview can be found on the SAP Help page listing the model names, associated area, usage for the model, and the date of the last model update. Introduction and Model Overview

The image shows the SAP Help Portal Documentation page, specifically an overview of various models related to performance diagnostics, calendar events, and health. The left sidebar lists different sections, while the main content area details model names, functions, and last updated dates.

On the SAP Help page you can filter by models or areas using the filter and search functions. Select individual models from a drop-down list on the left side. Here you'll find a more organized overview of models with all the measures and dimensions available. There's a comment for each dimension and measure available.

Note

The naming convention SAP_S1 signifies the system connection of the model, which, by default, represents the integration of live data from SAP Sports One.

The image shows the SAP Help Portal documentation page for scouting reports, detailing available measures and dimensions for analysis. The left sidebar lists various scouting-related options, while the main content outlines specific metrics and dimensions for evaluating player performance.

If you’re missing a model for SAP Sports One data, you'll need to retrieve it manually from the database (preferably with the help of an administrator). If you encounter any issues during this process, please reach out to your SAP representative. You can find detailed instructions on the SAP Help page using the following link: Create a Model from a Live Data Connection.
