  • Identify a Threat Actor
  • Learn about different types of threat actors

Identifying a Threat Actor

A threat actor is defined as an individual or organization that intentionally causes harm in the digital environment. They exploit vulnerabilities or weaknesses in computers, networks, and systems to carry out disruptive attacks on individuals or organizations.

Threat actors define the motivation and reasoning behind the attacks, which includes financial gain, political motives, personal grudges, or just for fun. Not all threat actors go after the same organizations, and they don't share the same reasons behind their attacks.

Exploring Different Types of Threat Actors

Threat actors differ in the reasoning behind their attacks and their targets. Common types of threat actors include cybercriminals, nation states, insider threat, hacktivists, and script kiddies.

While each type of threat actor has a different motivation, they all use cyberattacks to create disruption for their targets.
