  • Understand the purpose of cybersecurity

Cybersecurity and Cyber-Attacks

Cybersecurity protects an organization's precious assets: people, technology, and processes.

What is a cyber-attack?

A cyber-attack is when a hacker or a bad actor tries to damage a computer system or network. Cyber-attacks affect organizations of all sizes and of all industries, resulting in the following:

  • An increase in the cost of doing business
  • Loss of trust from customers
  • Damage to reputation
  • Theft of intellectual property and sensitive information
  • Significant monetary loss

What is cybersecurity?

Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting systems and networks from cyber-attacks. By investing in cybersecurity, organizations can monitor their systems, detect threats as they happen, protect their assets, and recover from an attack without a significant impact to the organization.

What do cybersecurity teams do in an organization?

In an organization, cybersecurity teams prevent, monitor, and react to cyber-attacks. Depending on the size of the organization, these teams are also responsible for employee security awareness, business continuity, developing policies and standards for Cybersecurity, and testing the organization's systems and networks.
