Activating Zero Downtime Option (ZDO) in Software Update Manager

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to choose the ZDO Approach in the Software Update Manager UI

Activation of ZDO in Software Update Manager User Interface

This section shows you how to select Zero Downtime Option (ZDO) in Software Update Manager and provide the password for utilizing ZDO.

Selecting Zero Downtime Option in Software Update Manager User Interface

Zero Downtime Option is shipped as one of the downtime-optimization approaches within Software Update Manager 2.0. To enable the Zero Downtime Option approach, select the option as part of the dialog workflow in the phase SELECT_ROADMAP.

If the dialog Scenario Strategy (step B) does not display the Zero Downtime Option (ZDO) approach, it might be that a component in the system is not ZDO enabled.

This image shows screenshots from Software Update Manager. The first screenshot shows the tool in the phase in SELECT_ROADMAP where a stack configuration file is entered. The second screenshot shows that the scenario strategy “Downtime-optimized” is selected, but ZDO is not displayed. The third screenshot shows an extraction from the logfile SELROADMAP.LOG where the reason for the missing ZDO selection is displayed: A component in the system is not ZDO compliant.

The log file for this phase can be accessed using Software Update Manager user interface by clicking on the hyperlink SELROADMAP.LOG shown in the dialog (step B) Scenario Strategy. In the log file, search for the pattern Check if strategy 'ZDO' is possible.

As shown in the sample output (step C), the components that are not ZDO enabled are marked with a warning message 4WETQ399:

Authentication of Zero Downtime Option Approach

A password has to be requested before running ZDO using Software Update Manager. This section describes how to get the password to enable ZDO in the Software Update Manager user interface.

This image shows three boxes showing the process flow of ZDO registration. The first step is to complete the SAP Learning Journey and receive the knowledge badge. The next step is to request the ZDO password at SAP. The last step is to enter the password shared by SAP in the Software Update Manager user interface.
  • Using ZDO requires an educated employee who took the mandatory training and assessment provided in this Learning Journey.
  • Passing the assessment of this SAP Learning Journey will provide a digital Knowledge Badge.
  • The digital badge is issued by SAP SE and provided by Credly.com (separate log-on required).
  • After receiving the digital badge, it has to be "accepted" and must be made "publicly" visible.

Hint

Keep in mind to create the incident in time to retrieve the password. This becomes very important especially for the productive ZDO run. In addition, the password is only valid for the system ID and Software Update Manager version stated in the incident.

Example for Incident to Request the Password

Create the incident using the SAP ONE Support Launchpad as per the following example:

ComponentBC-UPG-DTM-TLA
SubjectPassword request for Zero Downtime Option of Software Update Manager
