Objective
Anthony’s colleague, Peter, knows that as an intermediate business user, Anthony will need to know how to use reports that use reporting rules.
Let’s learn more about this below.
Note
Most reporting requirements can be met without the use of reporting rules by running the Group Data Analysis app. However, in some special use cases, reports that use reporting rules are needed (see the following list of examples).
Statement of changes in equity
Statement of cash flow
Statement of comprehensive income
P&L by function of expense
IC reconciliation
Reports with reporting rules can be run from either the Group Data Analysis - With Reporting Rules app or from SAP Analysis for Office. Reports with reporting rules have two unique prompts:
In the Cash flow report with reporting rules example, the Statement of Cash Flow results is displayed in the Group Data Analysis - With Reporting Rules app.
In the Cash flow report with reporting rules example, the grid properties are set to display Alternating Row Colors. To access the grid properties: Right-click on a dimension → Display → Grid Properties.
A reporting item hierarchy consists of multiple reporting items (statistical FS items in master data) where each item is derived by FS items, subitems, consolidation units, and document types in reporting rules when running a rules-based report.
An example for statement of equity is shown in the following Statement of equity report with reporting rules example.
You need reports such as cash flow and statement of comprehensive income. To be able to do this, you’ll use reporting rules.
