Accessing SAP HANA Cloud

SAP BTP users can access the SAP BTP using an SAP BTP, enterprise edition account or an SAP BTP trial account. Which account type to use depends on the specific situation of that user. A business user would probably use an SAP BTP, enterprise edition account, a student would use an SAP BTP trial account to start learning about SAP HANA Cloud. During a proof of concept (POC) the implementation consultants could use the free tier plans in the customers SAP BTP, enterprise edition account.

Note

Individual users exploring BTP should now use BTP Trial rather than free tier plans. The old SAP BTP Free Tier account and free tier signup process is now obsolete. The Free Tier plans are exclusively available for Customers, Partners, and other organizations - not Individuals.

Getting Started with an SAP BTP, Enterprise Edition Account

Your company has signed-up for an SAP BTP, enterprise edition account. You can use this SAP BTP, enterprise edition account to learn more from SAP HANA Cloud. Please note that provisioning SAP HANA Cloud in this account type involves costs.

Required Entitlements

To be able to use SAP HANA Cloud, SAP HANA database, SAP HANA Cloud, data lake and the database administration tools, the following entitlements need to be assigned to your SAP BTP user account:

hana – entitlement for the SAP HANA Cloud, SAP HANA database
relational-data-lake – entitlement for the SAP HANA Cloud, data lake
tools – entitlement for the new multienvirionment database administration tools
MEMORY – entitlement for the Cloud Foundry runtime-envirionment for the old database administration tools

Getting Started with an SAP BTP Trial Account

You want to learn about SAP HANA Cloud in SAP BTP, but you don't have access to an SAP BTP, enterprise edition account. In this scenario, you've the following two options;

Use a free tier model SAP BTP account
Use an SAP BTP trial account

When applying for an SAP BTP trial account, the fully automatically setup process generates a global account, subaccount, and Cloud Foundry runtime for your account.

Getting Started with the Free Tier Plans for SAP BTP Account

You want to setup a proof of concept (POC) for using SAP HANA Cloud in SAP BTP. In this scenario, you can use the 30+ free tier plans that are available in your companies SAP BTP global account.

The advantage of using the free tier plans for SAP BTP is that at the end of the POC, you can change the SAP HANA Cloud service plan from the free plan to the hana plan. This means that all your POC developments are retained.
