Using Ellen MacArthur Foundation NGO Report

The New Plastics Economy Global Commitment brings together businesses, governments, and other organizations to help realize the vision of a circular economy for plastic, in which it never becomes waste. Signatories of the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment are committed to eliminate unnecessary plastic packaging, move from single-use to reuse models, and use only plastic packaging that is reusable, recyclable, or compostable.

For the past few years, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMF) has been rallying businesses and governments behind this positive vision of a circular economy for plastic. To help them achieve this goal, all business signatories are required to track and declare their plastic packaging data by submitting annual reports to the EMF.

Note

As a business signatory, you need to submit your report annually to the EMF, based on your own annual reporting cycle (flexible reporting year).

The Global Commitment Reporting Questionnaire available on EMF's online portal lists the information that you need to provide in the report. This includes information about your organization, details of reporting period and scope, volume and sourcing information about the plastic packaging used, and the reusability, recyclability, and compostability of plastic packaging used.

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation NGO Report calculates the amount of plastic packaging generated by your company for a reporting year. It calculates how much of that is reusable, recyclable, or compostable; and determines the sourcing information for the plastic packaging.

You can use this data to fill relevant sections in the Global Commitment Reporting Questionnaire on the EMF's online portal.

The report output contains the following main sections:

• Report Configuration: Information about the report configuration maintained in the Configure Reports app for this report.

• Report Output: The output data generated by the report.

  • Total Volume: Total weight of new plastic.

  • Plastic Package Categories Applicable: The percentage weights of different types of plastic packaging in the total new plastic packaging weight.

  • Plastic Packaging Sourcing: The percentage of post-consumer recycled content, pre-consumer recycled content, virgin renewable content, and virgin fossil-based content in the total new plastic packaging weight.

  • Plastic Packaging Volume: Percentage of reusable, recyclable, and compostable plastics in the total new plastic packaging weight.

• Data Issues: The number of data issues identified in the packaging data and in other types of data used for this report.
