Connecting to Supported Business Systems

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Describe how to integrate SAP Sustainabilty Footprint Management with supported ERP systems to acquire business data

Integration Scenarios

By offering live connectivity with your business system such as SAP S/4HANA, you can reuse the business data from these systems to calculate footprints. You can now do this by initiating import of business data in the relevant applications in SAP Sustainability Footprint Management. It pulls the master data and business transactional data entities from the connected system and then integrates the calculated footprints back into the SAP systems.

The table explains the integrations of business data from SAP solutions to SAP Sustainability Footprint Management and then the integration of calculated footprint back into the SAP solutions.

TasksDescription
Integrate with supported business systemsSAP Sustainability Footprint Management supports the integration with business systems (for example SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAP Business One) to import your business data, such as the master data and transactional data.
Publish footprint informationSAP Sustainability Footprint Management allows you to publish footprint information as master data to SAP S/4HANA or SAP S/4HANA Cloud.
Note
SAP S/4HANA (version 2021 Feature Pack Stack 01) and SAP S/4HANA Cloud (2108 and later) are supported.

Integration Options

SAP Sustainability Footprint Management provides vast reuse options for leveraging existing ERP data with the highest value in your calculation goal. This includes master data and transactional activity data with information on material flows and production documents. SAP S/4HANA Cloud and S/4HANA (2021 and later) have integration by default. You can connect SAP ECC and any other ERP systems through Public APIs. These systems are available on the SAP Business Accelerator Hub athttps://api.sap.com/package/SAPProductFootprintManagement/overview.

Note
This requires an IT project and also specific service offerings available from SAP Services to support you. Another option is to import data from any source via flat-file upload. Templates (in .xlsx-format) are directly available to download in the application.

SAP S/4HANA Integration

One of the key benefits of SAP Sustainability Footprint Management is the integration of calculated footprints into the company’s end-to-end business processes. This is providing transparency and insights into sustainability metrics to business users, enabling them to take sustainability criteria into their decision-making processes. In the Monitor Footprints app, you can choose a Publish button to transfer the calculation results (CO2e per unit) into the connected ERP source system. We support an integration into SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAP S/4HANA (2021 and later). For more information, refer to Publishing a Footprint Results on SAP Help Portal at:https://help.sap.com/docs/product-footprint-management/application-help-for-corporate-and-products/using-manage-footprint-results-application#publishing-a-footprint-result.

In SAP S/4HANA, the published footprints are stored in the Sustainability Integration Component. Business users can now access those. For example, they can access them through the View Product Footprints or Product Carbon Footprint apps.

Note

To integrate the published footprints into your business processes, you can leverage the Key User Extensibility in SAP S/4HANA. For more information, refer to the blog post 'Extending business processes with product footprints using the Key User Extensibility in SAP S/4HANA': https://blogs.sap.com/2022/05/01/extending-business-processes-with-product-footprints-using-the-key-user-extensibility-in-sap-s-4hana/.

Next, we discuss the four business scenarios where we integrate SAP Sustainability Footprint Management.

Scenario 1: Purchasing

The first SAP S/4HANA Purchase process integration scenario is a direct integration of product footprints into purchase requisitions (PR). With this feature, footprints display on the PR Item level, for example, enabling the PR approver to also see the PR footprint next to the financial value. An operational purchaser can now also analyze the environmental impact of the PRs they are responsible for in the Monitor Purchase Requisition Items application. By leveraging this information, you can take proactive measures to optimize the environmental footprint.

Scenario 2: Inventory Management

Another direct integration is already available in SAP S/4HANA Inventory Management (MM-IM), an integration that starts with the Stock – Multiple Materials app. This enhancement offers insight into the environmental impact of the stocks overseen by the inventory manager.

Previously, you used the app to obtain a summary of stock quantities and their corresponding financial values. Now, you can also use it to incorporate sustainability criteria into decision-making processes. The app retrieves the footprint data from the integration component and, by multiplying it with the relevant quantity, presents the footprints for each material. We also aim to expand the integration to encompass more inventory management processes and applications, such as Inventory KPI Analysis.

Scenario 3: SAP Integrated Business Planning

You can use calculated footprint results to track your facilities' greenhouse gas emissions according to supply planning heuristic results. To incorporate sustainability into your supply chain planning process, there is also an integration of footprints into SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP). For more information, refer to SAP Integrated Business Planning in the SAP Help portal at: https://www.sap.com/products/scm/integrated-business-planning.html.

SAP IBP enables you to visualize your plants' emissions on a geographic map and incorporate them into your production plan. Global supply chain planners can leverage the Intelligent Visibility app to examine the calculated footprint. They determine the footprint by multiplying the long-term production plan's receipts with the product-location footprint. They can then develop scenarios in the Planner Workspace environment to address the alerts. Pre-configured content is available as part of the SAP Best Practices for SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain. This content includes alerts, charts, procedure playbooks, and intelligent visibility profiles.

Scenario 4: SAP Business Networks

First Carbon Data Exchange use cases are available, leveraging the SAP Business Network, through integrating footprints into

SAP Business Network Material Traceability

The solution improves visibility and transparency in supply chains, by capturing and exchanging material provenance information and alerts with business partners. This involves multi-tier sharing of product attributes, batch details, and now also CO2e footprints for batch-managed materials.

The footprints are calculated by SAP Sustainability Footprint Management and integrated via SAP S/4HANA.For more information, see SAP Help page:https://help.sap.com/docs/business-network-material-traceability/administration-guide-for-material-traceability/sustainability?q
