Using a Reverse Proxy for SAP Focused Run (Optional)

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to define an SAP Focused Run Reverse Proxy

Explain the Use of an SAP Focused Run Reverse Proxy in SAP Cloud ALM

Motivation

If you, as a customer, decide to use SAP Focused Run as the central monitoring tool, you need to be aware that, for some cloud products, a so-called SAP Focused Run Reverse Proxy is used.

Caution

SAP Focused Run is an SAP Application Lifecycle Management tool on SAP's price list. Customers usually use this product for good reasons, such as their SAP landscapes. You don't need to read this lesson if you aren't using this product.

Here are some examples of cloud products for which the SAP Focused Run Reverse Proxy function could be used:

  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition
  • SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain
  • SAP Marketing Cloud
  • SAP SuccessFactors
  • ...

For an actual list, please refer to the SAP Focused Run Expert Portal, and use the area SAP Focused Run - Supported Products.

Select the respective component name from the list to view the setup steps for connecting your desired product. You will then receive a detailed setup description.

Several SAP public cloud solutions support the delivery of monitoring data to an SAP Focused Run using push data collection.

Push data collection means that the data collection is triggered in the managed cloud service, which is in turn actively pushing monitoring data to the SAP Cloud ALM. The advantages of push data collection are that it is a more straightforward setup procedure, and monitoring data is only transferred if there is tracking data to report.

Usually, a SAP-focused run is located behind a firewall in the customer data center. This firewall would have to be opened to enable SAP public cloud services to push monitoring data directly to an SAP Focused Run, and the SAP Focused Run would be accessible from the internet. This is not desirable and invokes security issues.

Hence, another solution is provided. The SAP Focused Run Reverse Proxy is this solution, which involves SAP Cloud ALM together with a Cloud Connector acting as a reverse proxy for the SAP Focused Run. Consequently, this scenario allows a secure transfer of pushed monitoring data to the SAP Focused Run in the customer data center or a hosting provider.

Architecture

The graphic below shows the architecture of an SAP Focused Run Reverse Proxy infrastructure

The image shows the data exchange between a SAP Cloud ALM & Cloud Connector (acting as a Proxy) for the SAP Focused Run.

In this scenario, SAP Cloud ALM solely acts as a pass-through for the metrics pushed by the managed cloud services. The metrics are forwarded directly to the SAP Focused Run via the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) Connectivity Service and the Cloud Connector .

Note

The SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) is not shown in the figure for simplification.

The metric alerts are generated per setup only in SAP Focused Run, whilst in SAP Cloud ALM, the connectivity to SAP Focused Run must be defined.

Prerequisites

Note the following prerequisites, which have to be fulfilled before initializing the setup procedure:

  • The feature is available starting with SAP Focused Run 3.0 FP03
  • Obtain a subscription for SAP Cloud ALM (included in SAP Enterprise Support Cloud Editions)
  • Install the Cloud Connector in your SAP Focused Run system networkHere you can find more information for this task: SAP BTP Connectivity - Cloud Connector Installation
  • Implement SAP Note 3209577 on your SAP Focused Run system

More information and the single Configuration steps can be found in the SAP Focused Run Expert Portal.
