Performing Planning Activities Using the SAP Analytics Cloud, Add-in for Microsoft Excel

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to update a forecast version.

Planning Functionality

Using the SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Excel, you can plan data based on SAP Analytics Cloud planning models. Watch this short video to find out more.

Key Points to Note

Data Entry: The planning scenario is based on the Mass Data Entry mode. In this mode, you can enter multiple values in a table without waiting for the system to update between entries. Mass Data Entry is the default planning input mode in the SAP Analytics Cloud, Add-in For Excel. It is not a separate feature you switch on independently — it is how the add-in handles planning input when planning mode is enabled on a table.

Mass data entry mode prevents planning on more than one model.

Hierarchy Nodes: You can also enter planning values for hierarchy nodes. When processing data, the planning value for a hierarchy node will be applied proportionally to all unchanged hierarchy elements.

Planning: One Model at a Time

You can plan on only one model at a time. While planning is active, other tables in your workbook are disabled, and the Designer panel is not available. To plan on a different model in the same workbook, disable planning for the current model first.

Enable and Disable Planning

Planning settings for a table are found in the Planning section of the Builder panel. Here, you can enable or disable planning for the table and access the Optimize Planning Area setting.

To disable planning for a model:

  1. Choose a cell in the table
  2. In the Builder panel, scroll to the Planning section
  3. Deselect Planning Enabled
How to turn off planning for the model in the Builder panel.

Saving and Publishing Data

Process Data saves the planned values in the workbook.

Publish Data saves the values to the planning model in SAP Analytics Cloud.

After Processing Data

After processing the planning data, other tables in the workbook based on the same model are not refreshed automatically. A message appears listing all affected tables. You can select a table from the list to navigate to it and refresh it individually or choose to refresh all affected tables at once.

Data Input Control: The add-in does not support data input control, so you do not have a visual indication of the locked cells. Processing data on locked cells might be possible, but publishing is not allowed.

Data Actions: If data actions have been created in SAP Analytics Cloud, they can be added to a workbook by selecting Planning Triggers in the ribbon.

Perform Planning Activities

Business Scenario: Now that you have set up your workbook, you are ready to perform planning activities.

You need to add your forecast numbers for your accounts, so you can display the forecast version, and enter the forecast number for the subaccounts. Once you enter your forecast numbers, you can then use the planning functionality in SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Excel.

Task Flow: In this practice exercise, you will:

  • Display the forecast version
  • Enter forecast numbers
  • Work with planning functionality

Summary

You should now be able to update a forecast version.
