A category manager administrator can assign a classification to a product category by defining product classification mappings. These mappings enable seamless use of purchase categories across different platforms in your organization. The mappings can be defined from an MS Excel spreadsheet with an *.xlsx format or by entering them in the SAP Ariba Category Management solution.
In SAP Ariba Category Management, you can use the following classifications:
- ACT (Ariba Classification Taxonomy)
- UNSPSC (United Nations Standard Products and Services Code)
- Material groups
- Custom domain codes
ACT is a custom 6-level commodity and service taxonomy based on UNSPSC. These codes are extendable, allowing ACT codes to have detailed classification. SAP Ariba Category Management uses ACT25 and comes preconfigured in the solution. However, if you need to extend or enrich any ACT code, your Designated Support Contact must initiate a ticket.
The UNSPSC codes are a worldwide standard for the precise and efficient classification of products and services across various platforms. UNSPSC v9.05 is preconfigured in the SAP Ariba Category Management solution.
Hint
- The UNSPSC code mapped to the child category must be higher than the code of its parent category.
- A UNSPSC code can only be mapped to one purchasing category or subcategory.
- You cannot map a parent purchasing category to a child UNSPSC code.
- You cannot map a child purchasing category to a parent UNSPSC code.
SAP Ariba Category Management also enables you to link the UNSPSC code of a purchasing category to a material group within that same category. You can define which UNSPSC code corresponds to which material group.
Material groups are classifications of goods and services created in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP S/4HANA, or SAP ECC (Enterprise Central Component) systems, and they can be mapped to SAP Ariba Category Management purchasing categories. Each material group can only be mapped to one purchasing category or subcategory. The category management administrator can import custom domain codes into SAP Category Management by using an MS Excel file in the *.xlsx format within the Manage Configurations application.
