Publishing Categories

Category management administrators can publish purchasing categories to the SAP Master Data Integration service so users from other SAP platforms can access the purchasing category master data by replicating it to their platform through the SAP Master Data Integration service.

Purchasing categories are frequently used across various platforms, including SAP Ariba and SAP S/4HANA. SAP Ariba Category Management serves as the source system for users to create and publish purchasing categories to the SAP Master Data Integration service. When purchasing categories are published to the SAP Master Data Integration service, the purchasing category master data becomes available to users from other platforms for replication.

You cannot publish a subcategory when its parent category is in the Category Unpublished or Changes Unpublished state. However, you can choose to publish:

• a category and all its parents if the parent categories are not published
• a category and all its subcategories if the subcategories are not published. To be able to do this, the parent categories must be in a published state
• a category and all its related categories if the parent categories and subcategories are not published

To publish a category:

1. Open the Manage Taxonomy application.
2. If you want to publish all categories with the statuses Unpublished and Changes Unpublished, click the Publish All link located at the top of the categories table.
3. If you want to publish a single category, review its details first and then click the Publish button.
4. If the parent categories or subcategories are not published, a pop-up menu displays the following options:
   • Category and All Related Categories to publish the category and its unpublished parent categories and subcategories
   • Category and its Parent Categories to publish the category and its unpublished parent categories
   • Category and its Subcategories to publish the category and its unpublished subcategories
