You use the Change Source in Web Intelligence to connect an existing document to a different data source. This feature helps you update the document’s data source without rebuilding the document.
You typically use this feature in three main situations:
- Moving a document between environments, such as from development to production.
- Updating a document to use a new or revised data source, such as switching from a UNV to a UNX universe.
- Fixing a report with a broken link to its data source.
In Design mode, go to the Query section of the toolbar and click Change Source.

Select the query you want to modify:
- To replace the data source, select the Specify a new data source for this query option. Choose the new data source. Next, select a mapping strategy and map the objects as needed.
- To use a data source available in the document, select the Map this query to a data source already used in the document option.
- To keep the same data source but change its settings, select the Change this query settings and check its objects mapping option.

Mapping Strategies for Data Sources
The Change Source wizard uses a list of criteria to map objects in data sources:
- Same ID: To map with a valid object that has the same ID.
- Same technical name: To map with a valid object that has the same technical name, if it exists.
- Same path: To map with a valid object that has the same path, the path including both the objects name and type.
- Closest name: To map with a valid object that has the closest name. If Web Intelligence encounters several objects with the same name but different object types, then it selects the first one in list based on the ID.
- Same name: To map with a valid object with exactly the same name.
