Custom tooltips let you change the information that appears when you point to a chart or table element. By default, when you point to an element such as a bar in a chart, a small window shows the basic data value.
With custom tooltips, you can design this window to display more relevant information. This helps you add context and details to your visualizations without cluttering the main report.

Example
Suppose you are a sales manager viewing a bar chart that shows total sales revenue for each sales representative. Normally, when you hover over a bar, you see only that person's total sales amount.
With a custom tooltip, you can set it up so that when you hover over a bar, the pop-up shows the number of deals closed, the average deal size, and the top-selling product category. This turns a simple chart into a performance summary that gives you deeper insights right away, without the need to run a separate report.
Add a Custom Tooltip
Create a custom tooltip with the mouse context menu.

In the Definition tab of the Edit Tooltip dialog box:
- Select the Display a report or a report element from radio button to change the default tooltip:
- In the Select a Target Report drop-down list, select a report (this report may be hidden).
- In the Select a Target Block drop-down list, you may select an element of this report that is not contained in a section. If you do not select any and keep None, then the report first page is displayed in the tooltip. You may hover your mouse over the icons beside the drop-down lists to preview the selected target.
- In the table listing the objects of the report element, you may select the checkbox beside an object name to use it as a filter for the tooltip content. Then, for each of these objects:
- In the Operator drop-down list, select the operator to use for the filter.
- In the Target Objects drop-down list, select the object in the target report or report element to filter.
In the Options tab of the Edit Tooltip dialog box, you may select some display options:
- Fit to Content: To shrink the target report or report element to fit it in the tooltip frame.
- Show Filter Bar: To display a filter bar on top of the tooltip to display the filters, if any, applied to the target report or report element.
After you create the tooltip, it appears in Reading mode when you hover your mouse over the selected report element. If you define filters, the tooltip content updates based on the value you hover over and the filter settings. You can display multiple tooltips at the same time by creating a tooltip on top of another.

- Use the Edit Tooltip dialog box to select target reports and elements, applying filters for customized content.
- Display options allow fitting content to the tooltip frame and showing filter bars for applied filters.
- Tooltips can be layered, creating multiple levels of information for comprehensive data visualization.
