Introducing Cloud-ready Mode

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain Cloud-ready Mode Functions and Features

Understand Cloud-ready Mode

Classic Mode in SAP Master Data Governance

Classic mode has been the standard delivery option in SAP S/4HANA for multiple years and is an alternative to cloud-ready mode in SAP Master Data Governance.

It offers a wide range of features, including apps for data quality management, consolidation, and central governance for master data domains, such as business partner, product, various financial domains, and the possibility to define custom domains.

Cloud-ready Mode in SAP Master Data Governance

The Cloud-ready mode in SAP Master Data Governance is an additional option to configure and extend processes and applications like central governance, mass processing, consolidation, or data quality management. It was initially delivered with SAP Master Data Governance, cloud edition (2021) and is now available in SAP S/4HANA 2023. Accordingly, it is planned to be available in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition as specified in the SAP Road Map Explorer.

Cloud-ready mode is available on the following platforms:

  • SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP): today and once SAP opens SAP Master Data Governance, cloud edition for PaaS.
  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition and On-Premise: Business Partner domain for SAP Master Data Governance on SAP S/4HANA 2023
  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition: Business Partner domain planned for 2024 in Master Data Governance on SAP S/4HANA public cloud according to SAP Road Map Explorer.

The table below lists the availability of cloud-ready and classic mode for the Business Partner domain for the different MDG versions.

Customers can optionally activate the cloud-ready mode in their existing SAP Master Data Governance on SAP S/4HANA systems for the Business Partner (from release 2023 onwards).

Highlights of Cloud-ready Mode

Cloud-ready mode comes with some new features:

  • Data provider integration, like CDQ First Time Right
  • Federated governance enabled
  • Attachments for all processes
  • Process visualization

A consistent process and UI design, across all SAP Master Data Governance processes, allows:

  • End-to-end automation of processes.
  • Workflows for all relevant processes, including consolidation and mass processing.
  • Direct editing within mass processing UI for any process step.
  • Seamless navigation between mass processing and single processing UIs for data maintenance.
  • Consistent field extensibility across all applications, including key user adaptation in SAP Fiori UI.

Optional Cloud-ready Mode in SAP Master Data Governance

The figure Cloud-Ready Mode shows the configuration of the optional Cloud-ready mode.

The figure compares the functions of the Classic Mode with the functions of the Cloud-ready Mode. Furthermore it explains the new Cloud-ready Mode in Customizing, which is an additional entry in the IMG.

The new optional cloud-ready mode for SAP Master Data Governance is available for the business partner domain with SAP S/4HANA 2023. Further domains will follow for future releases. Please see SAP Road Map Explorer.

The cloud-ready mode is one consistent framework for all MDG scenarios. It enables new apps in the newest SAP Fiori design for central governance (single and mass processing) and consolidation. A coexistence of classic mode central governance and cloud-ready mode is possible, which is typical for a transition phase.

Target Group

Cloud-ready mode for SAP Master Data Governance is an option which fits several MDG customers.

  • New customers starting with MDG in the Business Partner domain, including customer and supplier, should start with cloud-ready mode as the default.
  • Existing MDG customers can continue to use SAP Master Data Governance in classic mode, and should evaluate if the additional usage of cloud-ready mode in SAP Master Data Governance has benefits for them.
    1. Use classic mode and cloud-ready mode in SAP Master Data Governance for central governance in any combination at the same time (in parallel, on the same objects). Roll out this functionality to users in steps over time. Users can use both concepts in parallel.
    2. Cloud-ready mode requires the use of the new consolidation app.
    3. Customers can implement new scenarios with cloud-ready mode in SAP Master Data Governance or decide to convert selected existing scenarios.
