Administering Shifts

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create a Shift in SAP Fieldglass.

Shifts

Shifts define the days and times the workers are expected to work for a particular position.

Depending on an organization's needs, shifts may be simple and only include the typical working days in a week (Monday - Friday), or they might be more complex and include specific work days, hours, and start times and/or end times.

Shifts are associated to rate schedules, which are groupings of rates that apply to a position. Rates for workers can change based up differing shifts, so Shift details and Rate Schedules work together to track the rates for nonstandard work hours.

If a rate schedule is assigned to a worker, they will be required to select the Shift when completing their time sheets.

Shift Details page

The shift details page indicates the daily start and end times of the shift, as well as the days of the week in which the shift runs.

Create a Shift

WorkingNet Networking Inc., a global manufacturer of data networking equipment, periodically performs updates to their servers on weekend nights between 9 PM and 5 AM.

As the SAP Fieldglass administrator for WorkingNet, you’ll need to create a shift so the workers who are assigned to cover the maintenance updates can get paid at the appropriate rate.

Summary

Shifts specify the days and times workers are scheduled, ranging from simple weekly days to complex schedules.

Key Points:

  • Rate Schedules: Shifts are linked to rate schedules, affecting worker pay rates based on different shifts.
  • Time Sheet Selection: Workers must select the appropriate shift when filling out their time sheets if a rate schedule is assigned.
  • Shift Details: Shift details page shows start/end times and working days, including hours/minutes per shift.
