The CDP Application Library

As a best practice, ingestion of customer events data into the CDP is performed using connectors. Application connectors are low-code, no-code configurations that allow simple CDP deployment and integration. Application connectors are used by the CDP for customer data ingestion or collection and engagement or activation purposes. They are used for the inbound ingestion of customer data into the CDP, as well as for the outbound activation of the target applications or platforms from the CDP. They are the recommended methods of integrating the CDP into your architecture. Application connectors are connection templates used by operational teams to create connections to the source or destination applications. With application connectors, you can define events and actions. Events are used for ingestion from the source systems, and actions are used to deliver to destination systems. Connectors can be either real-time or batch-based. They can ingest events or deliver actions depending on the connector type and source destination system. In SAP CDP, connectors that integrate with technologies like commerce, marketing, CRM, analytics, etc, are available out of the box. OOTB to connect source and destination systems. You can use ConnectorStudio to create new connectors to the source or destination systems if there is no suitable connectors available. You can also use Connector Studio to create new connectors for new technologies.

The application library is a repository of applications and platforms that are available OOTB for data integration. You can use it to connect both source and destination applications. An application can be used as a source appears under sources. an application that can be used as a destination appears under Destinations. An application that can be used as both appears under both sources and destinations. Before setting up your application integration, you need to prepare some connection information such as hostname, bucketname and credentials etc. There are OOTB connector templates available for commerce, marketing, service, CRM, analytics, storage and advertising applications. By using the Connector Studio, you can create new connectors for any third-party applications which you have access to via REST API.

In this demo, we'll walk you through the application library feature of the SAP CDP. First, we'll see how to use the application library to connect source applications so that customer data can be ingested to SAP CDP. In the CDP console, hover your mouse over the hamburger button on the top left. Click on the Sources menu under the Connect section. On the left side, you see a list of existing source applications like the storage, commerce and CRM applications. On the right side, you see the total number of unique customers ingested through all the source applications and the percentage of successfully ingested application events. For each of the applications, you see the application activation status, customer data type it ingests, and the number of application events already ingested into CDP. Click on the greater than button on the application row to expand the source application definition and see some events defined on the application to ingest customer data. Click on the vertical three dots on the top right corner to enable or disable the source application and edit the application connection information. Click on Back and hover your mouse over the hamburger button on the top left. Click on the destinations menu under the connect section. Do you see a list of targets or destination applications? Click on the greater than button on the right side of the application row. It takes you to the application detail view where you see existing or predefined actions to activate target audiences or the customer journey. The application connection information on the Edit Application pop-up is the same as the source application. Go to the menu then click Sources, then click on Connect Application. This screen shows the application library where you can choose from the available types of connection to external systems. On the left-hand side menu, select Cloud Storage and click on the Connect button inside the AWS S3 card. The Create Application pop-up opens. We can now configure the settings to connect to Amazon Web Services S3 bucket that was previously made available through SAP Business Technology Platform or BTP. Enter a name and toggle activated to on. In the authentication settings, provide access and secret keys. In configuration, provide read and write bucket names. Click create. The application used to ingest and downstream data is created. This completes the application library demo.
