Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain how to work with the material list.

How to Get Quotes for Materials

Prerequisites

Prerequisites for creating quotes for materials are the same as for creating any type of sourcing event in SAP Ariba and have been covered in previous lessons.

Steps

  1. On the Product Sourcing dashboard tab, complete one of the following actions to display materials:

    • Click one of the materials action tiles. The data table automatically filters to display materials according to the action tile you selected.
    • Enter a material name or ID in the search box and click the search icon.
    • Click Advanced Search. On the Advanced Search page, enter one or more material IDs, separated by spaces.
  2. Check the materials for which you want to get supplier quotes.

  3. Choose Get quote and choose one of the following options:

    • Using Simple RFX
    • Using Sourcing Project
    • Using Guided Sourcing, if the site has the guide sourcing capability enabled.

Result

If you chose Using Simple RFX, the Create Quote Request page displays and you can create a simple RFx event for materials.

If you chose Using Sourcing Project, the Create Sourcing Project page displays and you can create a sourcing event for materials.

Splits for Materials with Missing Approved Manufacturer List (AML) Splits

There are two types of splits:

  • Approved manufacturer list (AML) splits are splits across every item and contract manufacturer.
  • BOM splits are splits between item groups in a particular BOM.

Prerequisites

Users must be a member of the Materials Manager or Materials Viewer group to enter split percentages for materials they own. You must be the owner of the material to add split percentages.

Steps

  1. On the Product Sourcing dashboard tab, click the Materials with missing AML splits action tile.

    Note

    You can choose Export to Excel to add your split percentages in a spreadsheet and then choose Import from Excel.
  2. Click the item ID for the material you want to edit.

  3. Click View/edit item info. SAP Ariba displays the Item Information page.

  4. Enter the split percentages in the Split % field.

    Note

    You must be the owner of the material to add split percentages.

Result

If you use the Import from Excel feature, the Excel file will be processed by a scheduled task that runs multiple times an hour.

The import page contains an Import requests area with the following status information:

  • A drop-down to select the time period for the status information (Last 7 days, Last month, All).
  • A button to Refresh the status information.
  • A status information table with the following columns:
    • User ID: ID of the user who submitted the data import.
    • Type: Type of data import.
    • File: Name of the file submitted.
    • Start Date: Time and date the data was submitted.
    • End Date: Time and date the data import completed.
    • Elapsed Time: Time elapsed between when the import is submitted and the import completion.
    • Status: Status of the data import.

How to Add Estimated Lead Time Values to Materials

You can find materials that have no lead time and enter an estimated lead time for them in the parts database.

Prerequisites

Users must be a member of the Materials Manager or Materials Viewer group to add an estimated lead time.

Steps

  1. On the Product Sourcing dashboard tab, do one of the following:

    • Click the Materials with missing lead time tile.

      Note

      The Materials with missing lead time tile shows the materials that do not have a value for estimated lead time or lead time.
    • Click any materials tile.
  2. Click the item ID for the material you want to edit.

  3. Click View/edit item info. SAP Ariba displays the Item Information page.

  4. Enter the value in the Estimated lead time (in days) field.

Result

You can export and import the estimated lead time values using the Export to Excel and Import from Excel buttons.

If you use the Import from Excel feature, the Excel file will be processed by a scheduled task that runs multiple times an hour.

The Item 360° View

The material 360° view shows the material details, such as sourcing events, contracts, PIR activity, AML suppliers, and a price trend graph. By default, the material 360° view displays the price trend graph and the following sections:

  • Activity
  • Pricing / Splits
  • Price by Revision
  • Price By Source
  • Cost Group
The material 360° view of Bicycle-Frame is displayed.

On the Item 360° view users belonging to the Materials Manager group can view the Audit Log section.

Events related to the following actions are captured in the audit logs:

  • Assignment of owners
  • Changes to lead time
  • Changes to estimated lead time
  • Updates to contracted prices
  • Creation of purchasing information records (PIRs)

Users can also export the audit logs to Microsoft Excel.

The Bicycle-Frame screen is displayed.
