Recording Executed Workload

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to record execution information in Labor Management in SAP EWM

Enter Execution Information

Note

See the following video to learn more about entering execution information:

Note

In the case of confirming a warehouse order that is labor management relevant in the desktop transaction, the system only requires the entry of the processor and the end time. If no start time is entered, the start time is set to be the same as the end time. This means that no comparison between the planned time and the actual required time is possible.

RF versus Paper Based

Two images side by side separated by a blue arrow indicating a connection. On the left, a worker is scanning boxes with a handheld barcode scanner inside a warehouse (representing RF). On the right, a person points at stacked cardboard boxes on shelves (which represents paper based).

When working in the RF environment, the system determines the times automatically. One condition for this is that the user working with a resource is connected to a processor.

Indirect Labor Tasks

Indirect labor tasks are used to record work that is not directly related to the standard warehouse activities. This could be activities like sweeping the floor, changing batteries on a forklift, or time spent in a department meeting.

On the left, an individual holds a green garbage bag in one hand while wearing a white sweater and blue jeans. On the right, a group of four people dressed in dark uniforms and safety gear are gathered indoors, engaged in discussion over a document.. These represent indirect labor tasks

Maintain Indirect Labor Task

You can create, change and delete indirect labor tasks in the Maintain Indirect Labor Task application (/SCWM/ILT) or in the radio frequency (RF) transaction Indirect Labor Task Recording. In the Maintain Indirect Labor Task application, a team lead can create indirect labor tasks for individual processors or for a group.

The indirect labor tasks can be created in advance and the processor enters the actual processing time. The team lead or person responsible can create a note in the indirect labor task to give extra information to the processor, for example, to specify an instruction for the indirect labor task. Alternatively, the indirect labor tasks are created directly by the processor during execution.

In the RF environment, the user can create indirect labor tasks; alternatively, the user can process the indirect labor tasks created for him, by selecting them, setting a status, or entering the start time. After completing the tasks, he can set the status to Completed or enter the end time.

In the desktop transaction you can set start and end times, either by entering them manually or by choosing a button. The status is then set to In Process or Completed. Or, you can set the status. If you select the status In Process, the start time is set at the current time. If you select the status Completed, the end time is set at the current time.

Employees and groups can change, select, and display indirect labor tasks if they have the required authorization and if the task does not yet have the status Completed. You can delete any indirect labor tasks that were not processed. However, you cannot delete indirect labor tasks that have the status Completed. You can also archive indirect labor tasks.

When the indirect labor task is completed, the system automatically creates an executed workload. This enables you to evaluate indirect labor together with direct labor in the warehouse management monitor node for executed workload, and to consider it during the creation of employee performance documents. It is also possible to create the executed workload for indirect labor directly in the warehouse management monitor, instead of entering indirect labor tasks and processing them.

Prerequisites for Indirect Labor

As a basic requirement, order document management for indirect labor tasks must be activated in Customizing for EWM by choosing Labor ManagementActivate Order Document Management for Indirect Labor Tasks. A number range for the documents must also be defined and assigned to the warehouse number.

Labor Management must be activated for the internal process step INDL (indirect labor) and external process steps must be defined for this internal process step.

When working with labor activities, it is also necessary to define labor activities for indirect labor tasks. These must be connected to the external process steps for the warehouse numbers where they are to be used.

You can assign authorizations to create, change and delete indirect labor tasks to the relevant processors using the authorization object /SCWM/ILT.

Summary

  • There are three basic types of labor time. Direct labor is recorded when a Labor Management relevant document such as a warehouse order is completed. Indirect labor can be captured for activities not connected to a standard warehouse activity, using an indirect labor task (ILT). Time and attendance is used to store time events like clock-in and clock-out.
  • Whenever the activity in a processed document (a warehouse order, a physical inventory document or a value-added service order) relates to a Labor Management relevant process step, it is necessary to enter the processor and the end time of the processing of the document.
  • Indirect labor tasks are used to record work that is not directly related to the standard warehouse activities. Indirect labor tasks can be created in advance, and the processor enters the actual processing time. When an indirect labor task is completed, the system automatically creates an executed workload, which enables you to evaluate indirect labor together with direct labor in the warehouse management monitor node for executed workload. It can then also be considered during the creation of employee performance documents.
