Discovering Item Definitions

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure item definitions and pricing attributes

Configuring Item Definitions

Item Definitions in Templates

Within the content of event templates, there is a Definitions tab where pricing terms, formulas, and item attributes can be configured according to terminology that is specific to a given commodity. The line item’s attributes, terms, calculations, and other settings created in this tab will match those generated in the event.

Lots

Template administrators can create one lot of each type within the definitions of an event template:

  1. Bid at Item Level, compete at lot level (collect item pricing during bidding)
  2. Bid at Lot Level, compete at lot level (collect item pricing post bidding)
  3. Bid at Lot Level, compete at lot level (do not collect item pricing)
  4. Bid at discounted value at item level, compete at lot level (collect item pricing during bidding)

The definitions tab of an event template's content is open. The line item definition Item template has the price, quantity and Extended price terms. All lot types are added.

Terms and formulas can be added to lots only if the appropriate rule is enabled. If you want to add a formula without allowing project owners to add their own, temporarily set the rule to Yes, add your formulas, and then change the rule back to one of the No options.

Line items cannot be added to a lot definition. When the event creator adds line items to a lot, they are added using the Line item template.

Line Items

The default line Items include the following terms and formula:

  • Quantity, with the Unit of Measure Each.
  • Price.
  • Extended Price, defined as 'Price'*'Quantity', set as the competitive term, not delegated to the initiator (event creator), and rolled up to the section summary. The Item template definition is open with the Item Terms of Category, Price, Quantity and Extended Price added.

You can remove these and replace them with other terms. However, if you have a project in which all your line items need to be different, it is easier to use a template with the proper line item predefined in the template than to have to change each line item as you add it.

Summary

  • Item definitions act as templates for the line items and lots that are created on an event.
  • There are 4 lot types.
  • The default item definition has its term Extended Price, defined as 'Price'*'Quantity', and set as the competitive term.
