The Compensation module has two sides: the administration of the module and the use of the tool by compensation planners (end users).
Note
Compensation and Variable Pay Role-Based Permissions (RBP) follow the granular RBP model.
Role-Based Permission Settings
There are four key roles in SAP SuccessFactors Compensation:
- Administrators – Access to all compensation tools
- Compensation Planners/Managers – Access to compensation worksheets
- Human Resource Business Partners – Access to compensation worksheets/reports
- Executive Reviewers (Top Management) – Access to compensation worksheets as well as aggregate budgets and reports
Role-Based Permission controls:
- Access to tabs and sub-tabs of SAP SuccessFactors Compensation administration interface
- Executive Review read/edit/mass action
- Visibility of reward statements
Role-Based Permission does not control:
- Compensation worksheet attributes
- Plan-level permissions
At the very least, the following permissions must be considered:
| Roles | Permission Name | Permission Type | Choose | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Comp admin | Manage Compensation and Variable Pay | Administrative | Select All | Allows access to tools common to both Compensation and Variable Pay |
| Comp admin | Manage Compensation | Administrative | Select All | Allows access to compensation tools |
| Comp admin | Compensation | User | Executive Read/Edit/ Mass Action and Executive Review export report | Allows access to change recommendations and export from Executive Review |
| Planners/managers | Manage Compensation | Administrative | Compensation Management Permission | Allows Compensation navigation tab to be visible even if no forms have been routed to inbox |
| HR | Reports permission | User | Select All | Access to all reports |
| HR | Manage Compensation | Administrative | Compensation Management Permission | Allows Comp tab to be visible even if no forms have been routed to inbox |
| Executives | Compensation | User | Executive Read/Edit/ Mass Action all plans | Allows access to Executive Review forms |
| Executives | Manage Compensation | Administrative | Compensation Management Permission | Allows Comp tab to be visible when viewing Executive Review forms |

With proper permissions, administrators have access to Compensation Home, the administration interface of SAP SuccessFactors Compensation.
Any manager designated to receive the compensation form can access the form through the main navigation compensation tab. The different methods of designating managers to be compensation planners will be discussed in a later section.
By default, the Compensation tab will only be visible if a form has already been routed to the user.

To ensure the Compensation tab is always visible to a user, no matter if forms have been routed to them or not, Compensation Management Permission can be enabled from RBP.
Export Plan Template Versions
You can grant a user permission to export plan template versions to an XML file. To grant this permission, go to Manage Permission Roles→Manage Compensation and Varpay, and then select Enable Export of Plan Template Versions.

When this setting is enabled, a download icon appears to the right of each plan template in Compensation Home.

Administrative Permissions for Individual Compensation Templates
You may also assign admin permissions at the individual Compensation template level. Rather than providing access to all (or no) templates, use Manage Permission Roles to define which administrator is responsible for selected templates. Before this configuration is possible you must enable a Company Setting from Actions for all plans.

Select Compensation Home→Actions for all plans→Manage Company Settings to enable RBP permissions at the individual template level.

Executive Review Permissions
This permission allows any user the ability to view and edit recommendation without being part of the route map. Executive reviewers can be granted permissions to see and edit a defined target population.
By default, the Executive Review target population is based on cached results, which is updated every four hours. If customers want to see a real-time target population, a setting in Provisioning needs to be enabled. With the setting turned on, rendering or loading time for Executive Review may become slower. Contact Customer Success to pull real-time target population in Executive Review.
When a user is granted Executive Review permissions, the Executive Review tab will appear in their Compensation tab.

Executive Review Display Settings
Display Settings can be configured for Compensation templates to open the Budget or Instructions tab by default on Compensation worksheets and Executive Review. For example, the following settings determine whether the Budget or Instructions tab is open:
