Creating Curriculum Requirements

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create curriculum requirements and requirement groups.

Curriculum Requirements

Curriculum Requirements allow users to choose their preferred courses from a list of available options in order to complete their curriculum. Curriculum Requirements are separate Learning Activities that must be created before they can be associated with existing curricula.

Curriculum Requirements Types

When creating Curriculum Requirements, the Curriculum Requirement Type must be selected. The Curriculum Requirement Type  defines how the user can meet the conditions. Examples of conditions include completing a certain number of hours or items.

Watch this video to learn how to create a requirement for # Items from a pool of items and associate it to an existing curriculum.

Video Summary

This video shows how an administrator can create and add curriculum requirements for learners. The example used is the addition of an asbestos safety curriculum requirement. The process of creating a requirement for learners to complete any five courses from a pool of 10, then adding it to the curriculum are explained. This gives learners the option to choose which courses to complete and highlights the flexibility and customization that administrators can have in designing their curriculum requirements.

Curriculum Requirements Grouping

Grouping of Curriculum Requirements applies only if there is more than one requirement assigned. The Group Curriculum Requirements button only becomes active when two or more requirements are in the content list.

AND Relationship

When multiple Curriculum Requirements are assigned simultaneously, they automatically adopt an AND relationship. This implies that all requirements must be met for the completion of the curriculum.

Example: In the figure below, the user must complete any 2 items AND complete 5 CPE hours to fulfill the Curriculum Requirements.Group Curriculum Requirements using AND relationship are shown.

OR Relationship

If the curriculum can be completed by fulfilling either one requirement or the other, you must arrange the requirements into groups and establish an OR relationship. This suggests that fulfilling only one (or more) of the grouped requirements is sufficient for completing the curriculum.

Configuration steps for grouping and setting up the OR relationship :

  1. Select the checkboxes next to the Curriculum Requirements .
  2. Choose Group Curriculum Requirements.
  3. Enter a short description for the group in the popup window.
  4. Select Create Group.

Example: In the figure below, there are two requirements that are grouped. The user must complete any 2 items OR complete any 5 CPE hours to fulfill the Curriculum Requirements.

Group Curriculum Requirements using OR relationship are shown.

  • Curriculum requirements are created separately and then linked to curricula.
  • Types of requirements include:
    • # Hours: Complete a specific number of hours from any course.
    • # Items: Complete a set number of courses from a pool.
