Explaining Time Off for Employees

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain how the Time Off self-service works for employees.

Introduction to Time Off for Employees

Employees can access Time Off Self-Service through their web browser or mobile devices. Self-Service allows individuals to make or modify requests and view team absences.

They can submit time off requests, for example, vacation, sick leave, and jury duty, and check their team absence calendar to see who else is absent from the team to determine if taking leave is appropriate.

The solution provides a list of absences against which the employee can enter time.

Time Types

Time Off uses Time Types to track all absence reasons that should be available to employees.

The Time Types are mainly divided into three categories:

  • Simple absences: Regular absences like sickness, jury duty, and bereavement leave.
  • Absences with accounts: These are credited at a specific rate over time and debited as absences are taken (e.g., annual leave).
  • Leaves of absence: Long-term leaves with an impact on employee status (e.g., maternity leave, parental leave, or sabbatical).

Holiday Calendar

When an employee requests time off, the bank holidays may be considered when calculating the request duration.

Depending on the countries, regions, or cities where the employee is based, it may be required to consider different days for bank holidays.

Time Off supports multiple holiday calendars and ensures that the country/region-specific bank holidays applicable to an employee are considered when the employee requests time off.

Work Schedules

Time Off also uses Work Schedules to define the employee’s working pattern. It is assigned to an employee’s job information, showing, for example, how many days per week an employee works and how many hours each of those days.
