Introducing Master Data Distribution

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to give an overview on Master Data Distribution.

Overview Master Data Distibution

Master Data Distribution

Enterprises often operate more than one SAP system in a heterogeneous environment. For example, they may want to separate an engineering system from their production systems. In such cases, they use the Application Link Enabling (ALE) technique to distribute data from one system to the others.

A possible distribution scenario could be the following: in the source system, the initial engineering data such as material, bill of materials, or documents are generated. When these data reach a particular development stage, indicated by a status, they are distributed to the production systems using ALE.

Inside the target system the following could happen:

  • the engineering BOMs are copied to production BOMs.
  • The materials can be extended with MRP data.
  • the released documents can be directly used without any changes.

Product Structure Browser

Until now, you have always gained an overview directly in the target system to see which master data exists there. With the help of the Product Structure Browser, you are now able to gain a cross-system overview of your master data. This way, you can immediately identify which master data is missing or needs to be updated in the target system.
