Enabling Canvas Reports for Ad Hoc Data

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Enable Canvas Reports for ad hoc data with LMS integration
  • Enable Canvas Reports with LMS data

Canvas Report Enablement in SAP SuccessFactors HXM Suite

To build custom, well formatted, presentation ready, exportable reports using Live Data (also known as the ad hoc data source), enable canvas reporting.

Enable canvas reporting in the tenant either by using the Upgrade Center tool or from Provisioning.

Canvas reporting for transactional data, Dashboards Framework, and Table reporting are set to be deleted on November 21, 2025. Canvas reports will remain available for Workforce Analytics (WFA) customers beyond 2025. However, only Workforce Analytics (WFA) data will remain available, not transactional data. New customers with instances provisioned after 2H 2023 will NOT have the Dashboard Framework available to them. Tables and Canvas reporting can still be enabled for those new customers.

Note

SAP recommends enabling canvas reporting via the Upgrade Center.

Canvas Reports Enablement Using the Upgrade Center

Enable canvas reporting solution using the Upgrade Center tool in Admin Center. If the customer has SAP SuccessFactors Learning Management System enabled on the instance, it will also configure the LMS integration to access learning data via Canvas reports.

  1. Go to Admin CenterUpgrade Center.
  2. On the top right corner, choose the Filter By dropdown list and select Analytics.
  3. For the Online Report Designer (including Live Data and Learning, if applicable), Learn More & Upgrade Now.
  4. Choose Upgrade Now and complete the process.

Result

This upgrade may take up to 30 minutes. If the user wants to reverse the upgrade, one can do so by selecting the Undo from Recently Completed Upgrades listing.

Canvas Report Enablement for Ad Hoc Data Using Provisioning

If you cannot enable Online Report Designer using the Upgrade Center tool, enable the solution in your tenant from Provisioning. The basic steps to enable canvas reporting via the online report designer using provisioning are:

  1. Configure the settings on the Provisioning → Service Provider Settings → Authorized SP Assertion Consumer Service Settings page. For more information, read the 'SAP SuccessFactors HXM Suite to Analytics Single Sign-On' guide on the SAP help portal.
  2. Go to the Analytics and Dashboard Tabs and Misc. Reporting section of the Provisioning → Company Settings page.
  3. Select Single Sign On and the Use WFA URL Set options and enter the corresponding URLs.
  4. Select Enable SAML for SSO.
  5. Select Online Report Designer and configure the corresponding settings.
  6. Save the changes in the Analytics and Dashboard Tabs under Misc. Reporting section.

After the Provisioning settings are saved, an analytics instance is created if it did not already exist. The instance is usually created within 30 minutes.

You need to follow the latest version of the SSO details guide: 'SAP SuccessFactors HXM Suite to Analytics Single Sign-On'. Download it from the SAP Help Portal.

Once the Analytics instance has been created, it’s necessary to give users access to the Report Center through Role Based Permissions.

Note
You cannot enable Online Report Designer on training, sales demos, or learning system access instances as the creation of the analytics instance fails.

Canvas Report Enablement for LMS Data Using Provisioning

If you manually enabled Canvas reporting via provisioning or the customer adds the Learning module to the instance, you may need to manually configure LMS data integration with Canvas reports.

To get access to the LMS reporting schema, it is required to include the LMS Tenant URL in provisioning.

Determine the LMS tenant URL by checking the ‘Authorized SP Assertion Consumer Service Settings’ in the ‘Service Provider Settings’ section of Provisioning.

Add ad hoc reports to the first part of the URL. The final LMS URL will be in the format below:

For Production:

https://customer.plateau.com/learning/adhocreports/

For Test:

https://customer-stage.plateau.com/learning/adhocreports/

Even if access to the LMS has been set up correctly for a customer, not all users will necessarily have the required permission to access the LMS schemas. This is intentional (and not a defect) as per guidance from the LMS Product Engineers – only Admin users have access to the LMS schemas in Detailed Reporting. For Example, the BizX username must be a valid ‘Admin ID’ in System Administration.

To confirm the BizX username, run an Employee Export from the BizX application:

Admin Center → Update User Information → Employee Export

Check the username in the Employee Export spreadsheet.

Check that the above BizX username exists as an AdminID in LMS.

To get access to the LMS reporting schema’s, it’s required to assign the ad hoc reporting permission in LMS. Assign the following permissions:

  • Manage Learning Ad hoc Report
  • Run ad hoc Curriculum Item Status Report
  • Run ad hoc Follow-up Survey Report
  • Run ad hoc Survey Response Report
  • Run ad hoc Survey Response Report
  • Run ad hoc Learning Item Assignment and History Report
  • Run ad hoc Program Status Report
  • Run ad hoc Class Registration Report
  • Run ad hoc Item Cost and Order Information Report
Note
The LMS Admin permission are assigned by accessing System Admin → Security → Role Management. Select the role your Admin has, and click on the Permission tab.
