Configuring Basic Settings

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure basic settings in Lean Catalog.

Basic Settings

Basic Settings

In transaction /ESAPLC/LCATCUST, all relevant settings for the lean catalog are grouped in a view cluster. But the first step is the basic settings for a product catalog, which can be managed in transaction /ESAP/CATMAN.

Number Ranges

Here you can maintain the number range interval for the number ranges of catalog areas, catalog items, and saved shopping carts/shopping lists.

Product Information

Use Material Master texts
Here you define which text types are permitted for SAP material masters and vendor materials in the Lean Catalog. For example, the purchase order text from the material master.
Define Document Categories
This setting:
  • Links a document type with permitted file extensions such as .pdf or .doc
  • Controls the number of possible originals in the document management system (DMS)
  • Controls the usage of a document in Lean Catalog (for example, as a product detail screen).
Define Product Relationships
Various product relationships can be mapped in the Lean Catalog. Examples include typical cross-selling (similar products), accessories, spare parts, or bundles.

Product Catalogs

Define Product Catalog Types
In Lean Catalog, you can create different catalog types with different Customizing settings for different scenarios. Here, the catalog type is the pointer to the dependent settings.
Define Catalog Area Types
You can define catalog area types freely in this section. They act as anchor points within the lean catalog's enhancement concept, allowing you to apply specific logic to each individual catalog area.

In some cases, you may have products that should only be available as part of a bundle, and cannot be ordered separately. To manage this, you can create a "hidden" area. This allows you to include the necessary product data in your catalog while ensuring these items aren't visible or orderable on their own.

Assign Catalog Area Types to Product Catalog Types
Area types must be assigned to a catalog type before you can use them in Lean Catalog.
Define Item Categories
This setting controls which objects can be used as items in the catalog. Possible objects are the SAP material master, supplier material, and punchout catalogs.
Assign Item Categories to Product Catalog Types
Similar to area categories, the defined item categories have to be assigned to the product catalog type.
Assign Texts to Product Catalog Types
The text types defined under Basic Settings are assigned to a product catalog type in this step.
Assign Documents to Product Catalog Types
The document categories defined under Basic Settings are assigned to a product catalog type in this step.

How to Customize Basic Settings for a Catalog

Storing Documents in Lean Catalog

You can attach various documents to catalog items, such as drawings, PDFs, or images. When you assign a document, the system creates a Document Info Record (DIR), which links the product to the document's physical storage. You can assign the same Document Info Record to multiple products.

The storage location itself depends on your specific strategy. Through the Document Management System (DMS), you can decide for each document type whether to save files directly on the application server database or use a connected external storage location.

To view the documents and their records, simply click the Document icon in the product list view in /ESAP/CATMAN.

Displays an SAP interface for managing product catalog documents and images with data tables and process action icons for catalog item updates.

Here you can see the assigned documents on the right, and documents that can be created on the left. You can display the document info record by clicking on the Display Document Info Record icon.

Then you will be able to view the document info record, shown below.

SAP document interface displays basic data and original file attachment details for a document record.

  • Define catalog types, area types, and item categories to structure catalogs and manage product visibility.
  • Assign texts and documents to catalog types for consistent product information and document access.
  • Attach and manage documents for catalog items using the Document Management System and Document Info Records.
