Creating a Lean Catalog

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create a Lean Catalog within SAP ERP and SAP S/4HANA.

Catalog Manager (/ESAP/CATMAN) and Material Master Data

Catalog Manager, or CatMan for short, is a transaction in SAP S/4HANA that allows you to create, edit, or display a catalog.

CatMan allows you to create and maintain a multi-level catalog hierarchy. Catalog areas can be nested within each other, creating a logical structure that reflects your organization's departments or product categories. You can assign images and text to catalog areas to enhance the visual representation and provide additional information to users.

To create a catalog hierarchy:

  1. Navigate to the CatMan transaction (/ESAP/CATMAN ).
  2. Create a new catalog or select an existing one.
  3. Create catalog areas to define the main categories within your catalog.
  4. Create sub-areas within the main categories to further refine the structure.

Creating a Catalog in Catalog Manager (CatMan)

You use the Catalog Manager (/ESAP/CATMAN) tool to create and maintain Lean Catalogs.

When you enter a new catalog name and choose Create, you will get to the Create Catalog screen, where you can fill in the catalog header data.

If you are creating a purchasing catalog, you fill the catalog type. You have to define a validity date and also the country of the catalog.

You also have to specify a variant, which includes language and currency.

Catalog, language, and currency options in the catalog management tool interface.

Adding materials to the catalog

Use CatMan to add materials to areas. Or, to be more precise, to add pointers to materials to areas.

On the screen where you display the catalog, select the Display Worklist checkbox.

The catalog management tool, showing language and currency options, with an option to display a worklist.

A selection screen with possible material types will be displayed. Here, you enter your desired selection criteria and choose Execute.

A selection screen shows a table of materials and material type data.

A list of materials is displayed in the Worklist. You can then select materials and drag them to the desired area.

Maintain Product Catalog screen, where you can select and filter materials for inclusion in a catalog.

After you add products to an area, save the catalog.

Material masters that are assigned multiple times aren’t stored multiple times; changes to material masters or supplier materials are reflected immediately in the catalog.
