Exploring the Component Manufacturing Workflow

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to provide an overview of the component manufacturing showcase.

Introduction to Component Manufacturing

This unit explores the component manufacturing demo for a discrete manufacturing scenario powered by SAP Digital Manufacturing:

The image shows the flow of the component manufacturing process as explained below.

The workflow begins when an operator scans its badge and is automatically logged into the system. The system performs a raw material inspection and stages the components to the assembly area. Here, the worker follows on-screen instructions and visual guidance and assembles the components. Additionally, crucial assembly data, such as torque and position, is recorded using an intelligent screwdriver integrated with SAP Digital Manufacturing. After assembly, a camera captures an image of the completed control head for quality inspection. An integrated AI engine analyzes this image using a pre-trained machine learning model to detect defects, such as missing screws. If a defect is detected, the system routes the control head to rework. The worker is again guided through the rework process to correct the identified issue. A four eyes principle followed by a second visual inspection is implemented to validate that the repair was successful. Finally, the valve head is transported to an intermediate storage area from where it is taken to assemble the entire valve.
