Working with Segment Types

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain Segment Types in Concur Request.

Introduction

In this unit, you will learn about the Segment Types configuration tool. You will learn how Segment Types are configured and see how it is done based on CVI's requirements.

Note

It is strongly recommended that you have a copy of CVI's business requirements available as you complete this unit.

After completing this unit, you will be able to:

  • Explain Segment Types in Concur Request.
  • Demonstrate configuring Segment Types in Concur Request based on the customer's business requirements.

Segment Types

In Concur Request, a segment is an expense that is often part of a travel itinerary and is often booked in Concur Travel or by the TMC, such as an air ticket or hotel. Users can add segments to their requests to indicate what travel segments they will need for their trip and provide an estimate of what each segment will cost. The available segments are determined by a company's business requirements and system configuration.

Default Segment Types

Concur Request comes prebuilt with 14 Segment Types. They are:

  1. Air Ticket
  2. Railway Ticket
  3. Car Rental
  4. Hotel Reservation
  5. Taxi Fare
  6. Limousine Reservation
  7. Parking Fee
  8. Dining
  9. Miscellaneous
  10. Event
  11. Air subscription
  12. Insurance
  13. Rail subscription
  14. Visa

Creating and Modifying Segment Types

You use the Segment Types tool to create and manage segment types in your site. Each Segment Type has a name, an icon, a display order, and an indicator to identify if it is a system record.

If you need to modify a default Segment Type, you can only adjust the display order.

You can create a new Segment Type by copying an existing one and changing the attributes of the copy as needed.

In the Configuring Request Policies unit, you will learn that each Policy can have its own set of Segment Types, with different data entry forms.

The Segment types tool allows administrators to create and manage segment types in the Configure Request Policies, including specifying a name, an icon, a display order, and a system record.
