Introduction to Flexible Data Model

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to understand the Flexible Data Model and the basics of SAP7F Planning Area

Introduction to Flexible Data Model

SAP7F is a new sample planning area for order-based planning. It supports a flexible master data model, which allows you to customize your master data objects according to your business model requirements. This new flexibility also gives SAP7F its name. The letter F stands for flexibility.

Order-based planning-relevant master data can now be stored in simple and compound master data types. If you build a flexible model, you can choose your naming convention for your master data types and use them universally. In addition, it can be used for planning activities other than order-based planning. You may also extend your master data model with objects irrelevant to order-based planning (OBP) but useful in a different business context.

The SAP7F concentrates on the visibility of aggregated orders (aggregated to a day) planned by order-based planning runs and on data entry for input key figures, for example, forecast, time-dependent safety stock, or constraint, for example, capacity.

The time profile delivered with the SAP7F sample planning area consists of the following: Day, Week, Technical week (to enable month/week disaggregation), and Quarter and Year.

The storage time profile level is a day.

With SAP7F you can use planning areas based on flexible master data, which means that you can store your master data set in simple and compound master data types configured in SAP IBP and use it for order-based planning. By storing and maintaining OBP-relevant master data in SAP IBP, you extend your flexibility in shaping the data input for your planning applications. It allows you to maintain data in your base and version-specific master data (VSMD) enabled versions.

The figure describes the Master Data Types available in SAP IBP.

The process ensures that the data used by OBP applications are always up-to-date and valid for order-based planning so that your planning outputs are always accurate.

The master data model is kept valid based on the usage of business meanings associated with your master data types and attributes. The business meanings form a business meaning profile that is validated during planning area activation, or when you activate the business meaning themselves (you can adjust the business meaning and activate that without making changes to the planning area).

The figure describes the Master Data Architecture.

SAP7F Planning Area

The SAP7F sample planning area supports order-based planning by providing a sample or starting point for your implementation projects. It concentrates on the visibility of aggregated orders planned by order-based planning runs and on data entry for input key figures, for example, forecast, time-dependent safety stock, or constraints (for example, capacity).

When creating your own planning area, you can copy the SAP7F sample planning area and then change it to suit your own requirements. It is intended as a realistic basis for your own project. The storage time profile level is day.

You can enhance the sample planning area, for example, by creating additional attributes and planning levels.

Copying SAP7F Planning Area

In addition to the typical fields while performing Advanced Copy (Create New with Dependencies), SAP7F has two additional fields, which are now described.

Integration Profile

Use the CONF_MD_SAP integration profile that is available for selection by default.

Copy Analytics and Alerts

Predefined analytical objects (analytics charts, supply chain networks, custom alerts, alerts, planner workspace) from SAP IBP Best Practices are copied if this option is chosen.
