Synchronized Planning – Production Planning Integration

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to provide an Overview of Integration to Production Planning

Synchronized Planning – Production Planning Integration

What is Synchronized Planning - Production Planning Integration about?

Today, in many cases, supply chain planning is siloed and transactional and will not cover several departments and organizations, but with synchronized planning, we see the convergence of the different supply chain planning capabilities bringing together supply planning, distribution planning, and production planning in one place. This enables a holistic planner’s workspace.

Synchronized Planning supports harmonized Supply Chain Planning from Customer Demand to Deployment, ensuring a consistent planning process vertically and horizontally.

Production Planning Integration is a core piece of synchronized planning supporting the process integration between SAP IBP and SAP S/4HANA ePPDS.

The figure describes the Production Planning Integration.

How do you use SAP Integrated Business Planning (SAP IBP) in combination with the detailed scheduling features of Advanced Planning in SAP S/4HANA?

SAP IBP is used for operational supply planning (OSP). A rough-cut plan is created there to optimize the usage of the supply chain network.

Detailed planning and scheduling (DPS) with Advanced Planning (Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS)) takes place in SAP S/4HANA to optimize usage of the production resources in plants and finitely schedule planned orders and production or process orders.

Short-term detailed scheduling of an SAP IBP production plan is done in SAP S/4HANA, and the changes to the planned dates and times of all supply elements become available in SAP IBP order-based planning, for example, in the Projected Stock, Analyze Supply Usage, or View Gating Factors apps.

With a subsequent planning run in SAP IBP, the detailed pegging result for the supply scheduled in DPS is recalculated and shown in the Analyze Supply Usage and View Gating Factors apps.

The figure describes the using SAP IBP Order-Based Planning with SAP S/4 HANA PP/DS.

The supply plan is aimed at utilizing the global supply network capacity to satisfy globally prioritized demand.

The detailed plan and schedule are aimed at optimizing local production as part of the global network plan.

The figure describes the Purpose of SAP IBP and SAP S/4HANA PP/DS

SAP IBP is designed to utilize global network capacity to fulfill prioritized demands in the most profitable way. Planning of distribution, production, and procurement can be executed in one go. Order-based back-end integration is part of the solution.

The figure describes the Benefits of SAP IBP.

Standalone PP/DS (SAP APO PP/DS) had been a trusted scheduling tool for over 20 years. Embedded PP/DS (PP/DS on S/4HANA) is an evolution of that tool with fully-fledged detailed planning and scheduling capabilities. It is designed to optimize the production plan as part of the global plan and to create feasible production schedules that are ready for manufacturing.

The figure describes the PP/DS Features.
