Versions and Scenarios

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the difference between Order-Based Planning Version and Scenario and Time-Series Based Planning

Versions and Scenarios

Use Cases for What-if Analysis

Like Time-Series Based Applications, Order-Based Planning can also perform what-if analysis using Versions and Scenarios. There is a slight difference in how versions and scenarios are configured and used in Order Based Planning, as described in the following material. Version planning, scenario, and simulation in case of Order-Base Planning can also be performed from SAP IBP Web UI.

The figure displays a comparison for Versions, Scenarios and Simulations.

Manage Version and Scenario app can be used to keep track of any versions and scenarios created, as well as any versions and scenarios that other people have shared.

Versions

Typically, Versions are Multi-User, used over longer periods compared to scenarios and simulations. They are created during configuration by the system administrator. Versions could be master data specific.

The figure describes the version in SAP IBP.

Version Specific Master Data

You can enable a version with master data specific to that version (VSMD) in your planning area. You can integrate and modify non-key attribute values in the version and simulate how changes to the master data affect the base version.

Note that by default, the external version-specific master data is empty; use the Order-Based Planning: Copy Version Data application job to populate data.

The figure describes the Version-Specific Master Data.

Scenarios

Scenarios are not created during configuration but are created on the fly by the users. Scenarios do not have scenario-specific master data but use the master data of the versions. Scenarios typically have a life cycle that is less than versions. Scenarios for Order-Based Planning are created in SAP IBP Web UI using Manage Versions and Scenarios app.

The figure describes the scenarios in SAP IBP.

Order-Based Planning: Copy Version Data

The Order-Based Planning: Copy Version Data application job is not the same as Time Series Copy Version Operator, and so a separate exercise on this topic.

You can schedule a Order-Based Planning: Copy Version Data job to copy the data that is used to calculate the values of external key figures, the order data, from a source version to a target version. The job deletes the relevant order data in the target version and subsequently copies the order data from the source version. The same happens, if applicable, with the master data.

Under Copying Scope in Details, you can select between the following options:

  • Snapshot: Fixed Orders, Sales Orders, and Planned Orders copy the full planning result for the given material-location selection.
  • Planning with Fixed Orders and Sales Orders copies only fixed orders. It does not copy any planning result like planned orders or gating orders.
  • Planning with Fixed Orders, Without Sales Orders, copies only fixed orders with their order confirmations and capacity consumptions, and stock. It does not copy sales orders or any planning result, such as planned orders or gating orders.

Note

Only the base version is connected to SAP S/4HANA via RTI.

Note

Copy version Data is also used to create Planning Objects in the target planning version, as shown in the following exercise.

For a version-specific master data, the master data types are copied automatically.

Prerequisites

Sales Orders have been created, as per Exercise 1.

Steps

  1. Maintain SAP IBP Workspace for Planning Version 001 and view the data.

    1. Log on to SAP IBP Fiori using the credentials supplied by your instructor.

    2. In the General Planner Group, choose the Planner Workspaces tile.

    3. Select your workspace IBP_800 ## and press the Workbook icon in the upper left corner of the Planner Workspaces screen. Choose your workbook Forecasts and Constraints ##.

    4. On the Data section on the top of the workbook, switch to the Design and select Go. Your component Forecasts and Allocations ## appears in the component section.

    5. Check if the key figure Sales Order Requested is selected, if not, add it to the selection.

    6. Check your filters, you should have selected the TXX_PHONE A for a Product ID attribute, and DC71 for the Location ID attribute.

    7. Change the data view from Base Version to Planning Version 001.

    8. The message No data found appears. In the next step we will copy the Base Version Order-Based Planning Data to Planning Version 001.

  2. Copy Base Version Order-Based Planning Data to Planning Version PV001 using the details in the following table:

    5. Select Schedule.

    6. Wait for the Application Job to successfully finish.

  3. Refresh your workspace for Planning Version 001 after executing the application job.

    1. Return to your Planner Workspaces session.

    2. On the Data section on the top of the workbook, switch to the Plan mode and select Refresh.

      Result

Component for Planning Version 001 should be displayed with the sales orders created earlier.

Note, that the forecast is not copied over as it is a Time Series Key Figure.

    Note

In the next exercise, we will run a Supply Planning with Allocation Creation run in Planning Version 001.
