Real-Time Integration Extensibility of the Master Data

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to learn how to Extend Master Data

Extensibility of Master Data

Standard order-based planning (OBP) model configurations are built on a predefined set of master data with business meanings in OBP. To extend your model with custom elements, you must modify your master data configuration accordingly.

Some of the OBP applications – also referred to as extensible apps – consider your master data configuration changes and allow you to use the custom attributes that you have added to your model. If you add such objects and activate the model, the view extension process of the extensible apps is started.

The figure describes the Manage Master Data app.

If you extend your model with custom master data attributes, consider the following:

  • The extensibility of master data is planning area specific. All versions of a planning area use the same extensible fields (the data set can vary between versions).
  • Only attributes that do not have an OBP business meaning can extend your master data model. In the following text, we describe the extensibility of master data for OBP. In certain use cases, you can use reference master data types with OBP business meanings in your model and extend these with custom attributes. The figure shows the attributes assigned to a Master Data Type.

To create custom fields, you need to know the business context to which a field is allocated.

With this app, you can do the following:

  • Publish fields to your test system
  • Edit fields that have already been published
  • Discard changes you have done to a field that was already published, and thus reset all modifications to get back to the state of the last published version of a field with one click
  • Delete new fields and already transported fields.

Before deleting a custom field, check it is mapped in any integration profile. Remove all mappings before deletion, then make sure you do not integrate the corresponding field from SAP ERP Central Component or SAP S/4HANA by adjusting the Business Add-Ins and the custom include.

The figure describes the Custom Fields and their Business Contexts.

The following slide shows an example of a Custom Fields app.

You can use real-time integration (RTI) to integrate custom attributes for order-based planning. You must map the custom attributes you want to add to your master data configuration to custom fields in your real-time integration profile.

The figure describes the RTI Custom Fields.

In SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA, a data element has to be created with the same name and type as the custom field was created in SAP IBP.

The figure describes how to Create Custom Fields in SAP S/4HANA.

A list of Master Data objects and BADIs is provided in the figure below.
