Order-Based Optimizer Costs

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain the Costs used in Order-Based Optimizer.

Order-Based Optimizer Costs

What Costs are in Scope?

Cost Maintenance

Cost Rules or Static Costs are included in the Planning Run Profiles.

It is also possible to assign costs to attributes, like a property of a location product, for example, a new product introduction. If costs are assigned to an attribute "new product", it becomes unnecessary to maintain the cost each time a new product is introduced.

If static and time-dependent costs are maintained, the optimizer will use more granular costs, that is, the time-dependent costs.

The figure describes the Cost Maintenance.

Static Costs

You can define the cost rules to be respected by the Constrained Forecast Run using the optimizer in the planning run profile.

In doing so, you can specify different time-independent cost values as follows:

  • Inventory cost values for selected location materials
  • Transportation and procurement cost values for selected transportation lanes
  • Production cost values for selected production data structures
  • Late delivery costs and non-delivery costs for selected demands

Additional attributes such as the MRP controller, the plant type, the mode of transport, or custom attributes, are available for selection. The cost values that you enter are abstract numbers representing proportions, they do not have any currency value.

The figure describes the Cost Rules.

For static costs, it is necessary to create segments and assign costs to different segment types.

The figure shows an example for static costs.

When a segment is defined, it is possible to add a condition, defining what is in the segment.

For example, all Transportation Lane from a Factory FA1 is a condition. This condition is assigned a cost of 2 to a segment, as shown in the previous figure.

As you will see from the previous example, these attributes provide you with a very flexible way to set up the cost rules.

The figure shows an example for static costs.

The cost rules created (as shown in previous figures) are then assigned to the planning run profile, which is in turn assigned to the: Order-Based Planning: Supply Planning Run.

The figure describes the assignment of the cost rules to the Planning Run Profile.

In addition, one can select Forecast and or Sales Orders from "Demand Selection Profile" as shown in the following figure.

The figure describes the Demand Selection Profile.
