Managing Facilities

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to model the energy flows in your organization for fuel and electricity energy sources.

Overview

The energy flow model is the basis for the emission calculation as it links all energy related elements like energy carriers, energy source and facilities with the resources replicated from the ERP system. When creating the energy flow model, meter readings are essential to comprehend energy consumption of resources replicated from your business system.

However, if you do not have meters installed, you need to use the planned energy consumption rates to calculate the actual consumption of carbon emissions by the replicated resources.

In this lesson, you'll learn to create energy flow models for fuel and electricity energy sources, which is the fifth step of the overall process flow. You'll also learn to manage the planned energy consumption rates later in the training.

A flowchart illustrates a process with nine key steps. These steps guide the user through setting organizational boundaries, defining scope, creating calculation variants uploading or reusing emission factors, creating energy flow model, calculating footprints, recording energy bills, checking data readiness and reviewing results in CO2 equivalents. The fifth step which is to create energy model is highlighted with a dotted line.

Energy Flow Model

The energy flow model consists of various elements that are combined to the energy flow of a company. All these elements can be fully modeled in the SAP Sustainability Footprint Management solution, and when coupled with the business data pulled from your company’s source system, it enables you to calculate your company’s complete carbon footprint. This model is usually set up once and updated when needed.

This diagram illustrates corporate emissions for AlmikaSoft Berlin, showing different energy sources like heat, electricity, and gas, and their consumption across various departments such as Building, Canteen, and Data Centre. It also highlights on-premise software usage in Germany and India.

A prerequisite to be able to build the energy flow model in the system is to collect the information on the different energy sources.
