Importing Data from SAP EHS Management, Environment Management

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to import data from SAP EHS Management, environment. management

The Import from SAP EHS Management, Environment Management

When you want to use actual Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions as CO2 equivalents from your compliance scenario’s data collections, calculations, and locations aggregations, you can import GHG emissions data from your SAP EHS Management, environment management.

You can assign these emissions to GHG scopes, sub categories, scope 2 accounting methods, and activity types. You can also allocate the emissions to plants in the business location hierarchy.

Further, you can use the Emissions Dashboard to analyze your GHG data and track your goals using the My Ambitions app, which is shown later in this learning journey.

SAP Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Management, Environment Management Data Flow

Before you can import data from the SAP Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) management, environment management system, you must integrate the SAP EHS management, environment management system with the Sustainability Control Tower. The following figure shows end-to-end SAP EHS management, environment management system’s integration with SCT.

The end-to-end flow of SAP EHS integration into SAP Sustainability Control Tower. It includes the process for managing GHG, with the following steps: Collect Measured Data, Calculate & Validate, Report Compliance, Import SAP EHS Data, Validate & Submit, and Analyze & Act on Emissions. The first three steps are performed in the Environment, Health & Safety app and the latter three steps are performed in Sustainability Control Tower. The Environment, Health & Safety app is based on Cloud ERP, S/4HANA Private Cloud, and S/4HANA On-Premise. The Sustainability Control Tower is built on Business Technology Platform.

When managing GHG data, the first step is to collect measured data from various sources in the SAP EHS management, environment management system. Next, calculate and validate the data to ensure accuracy and reliability. Once validated, a report is generated to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. The compliant SAP EHS data is then imported into Sustainability Control Tower for further analysis and action. The SAP EHS data is validated once more and submitted to the central system for a final review. Finally, the data is analyzed to generate actionable insights, allowing informed actions for reducing emissions.

The video shows how the information stored in SAP EHS Management, environment management maps to SAP Sustainability Control Tower.

To access SAP EHS Management, environment management, you must ensure that SAP EHS Management, environment management is active in the SAP S/4HANA or SAP S/4HANA Cloud system. Also, ensure that you are connected to SAP S/4HANA or SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Data Import

You can use the Manage ESG Data app to transfer your emission data from the activities that you record in SAP EHS Management, environment management, to SAP Sustainability Control Tower for use in your company's GHG recording.

The screen for the Manage ESG Data interface in SAP Sustainability Control Tower. The interface displays various measures related to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) data, such as Payments and CO2e Emissions. CO2e emissions is selected. The Import from SAP System dropdown menu is open, showing options to import data from SAP Datasphere, SAP Sustainability Footprint Management, and SAP EHS Management. The Import Status for the measure CO2e emissions is 2 Imports Not Published with an option to view import statuses.

Once imported, you can use the associated emission data with the sustainability metrics for GHG emissions across SAP Sustainability Control Tower to view and analyze the emission data in the View Emission Dashboard app. You can choose to import yearly, monthly, or quarterly data based on the time period you choose in SAP EHS Management, environment management. If data is aggregated on a monthly basis in SAP EHS Management, environment management, then you can import it by months.

The import uses your SAP S/4HANA configuration for data replication to import calculation results, data collections, and location aggregations using CDS views. You can import data only for the given time period. You can transform the replicated data and store it into the emissions DPI.

There are certain restrictions when importing data.

  1. The system only imports data for the listed substance, carbon dioxide equivalent, measured in metric tons.
  2. SAP EHS Management supports a subset of the available GHG data classifiers.
  3. The system only imports approved, nonpreliminary data.
  4. You must assign the data to locations of type Site or Plant. These locations require a PlantID, which serves as the identifier for the business location hierarchy of the imported data. You must maintain your SAP Sustainability Control Tower business location hierarchy with the required plants.

Steps for Data Import

Follow these steps to import data from SAP EHS Management, environment management:

  1. Open the Manage ESG Data app from your SAP Fiori launchpad and select the measure CO2e Emissions.
  2. Select the Import from SAP System dropdown, choose the option SAP EHS Management, and wait for the connectivity check to complete.
  3. Select a period for which you want to import data and choose Import.
  4. Once the import has run, you have different options to proceed depending on the import status:
    • If the import is complete, you can validate it next.
    • If the import is complete with issues, you have two options. You can choose to review issues first and re-import the data or you can choose to validate data that has been successful and resolve any data with issues later.
    • If the import  fails, a message provides you with more details on how to resolve the issue.
  5. Once your data validates, you can publish it to make it available across SAP Sustainability Control Tower.
