Brand and Simulation Customization divider

The Settings page lets you control how visual and interactive elements behave across our learning content. We can customize default styles, messages, and playback behavior to create a consistent experience for the learners.

WalkMe Learning Arc Brand Customization Settings

In this process, let's walk through the Brand Customizations tab to update the look and feel of the Learning Portal.

The image shows the Brand Customizations tab of the Learning Portal.
Step 1: Establish Brand Colors

Consistent use of brand colors in a learning portal reinforces brand identity and builds trust, helping learners feel connected to the organization from the start.

To get started setting brand colors:

  • Click the Colors dropdown.

  • Select a defined color theme or choose Customized.

If you selected Customized, set the colors for:

  • Primary: Main color for the header and tile background.

  • Secondary: Supporting color that blends with the primary (gradients, complementary highlights).

  • Button color: All clickable action buttons across the portal.

The image shows the color options in the Brand Customizations.
Step 2: Set Typography Settings

Typography plays a critical role in creating a clear and accessible learning experience by guiding the learner’s attention and enhancing readability.

Click the Fonts dropdown.

Then, select the:

  • Primary font: Used mainly for titles and headers, including course titles and homepage sections.

  • Secondary font: Used for body text and paragraphs, especially throughout the learning page.

All Set

Once all of our customizations are set, we'll want to publish to apply our changes:

Click Publish at the top-right of the page.

The image shows the preview, once all the customizations are set.

Hint

Switch between the Homepage and Learning Page to review both views before publishing.

Simulation Customization Settings

In this process, let's walk through the Simulations tab to update the look and feel of our Learning Portal.

The image displays the learning portal’s Simulations settings page, showing options to customize the appearance of help content like Highlighted Area and Shapes.
Step 1: Set Highlighted Areas

First, you'll want to define the highlight style for the area clicked during a simulation.

  1. Click the Highlighted Area dropdown.

  2. Choose the shape and style of the highlight.

  3. Adjust default appearance:

    1. Stroke: Color and thickness.

    2. Overlay: Dimmed background color behind the highlight.

The image displays learning portal’s Simulations settings. The Highlighted Area section is expanded, showing options to customize the stroke color, thickness, and overlay color, with a live preview of the changes on the right.
Step 2: Establish Shape Settings

Customize the shapes added in the simulation.

  1. Click the Shapes dropdown.

  2. Choose between:

    1. Basic mode: Global shape settings.

    2. Show advanced settings: Per-shape customization.

Using Basic mode settings, we can:

Adjust the appearance of all shapes at once.

  1. Click the Colors dropdown to customize:

    1. Fill: Set the fill color.

    2. Stroke: Set the border color and thickness.

  2. Click the Typography dropdown to adjust:

    Text: Choose font and size.

The image displays the Shape Settings for customizing the appearance of simulation shapes. The menu on the left has color options, and a preview on the right shows how the styled text balloon will look.
Step 3: Advanced Customization Settings

With advanced settings, we can edit each shape individually to fine-tune its appearance:

  1. Click the dropdown for any shape.

  2. Adjust the following:

    1. Fill: Set the fill color.

    2. Stroke: Set the border color and thickness.

    3. Text: Choose font and size.

The image displays Simulations settings in Learning Portal, where you can customize the appearance of help balloons. Color and thickness options are on the left, with a live preview of the result on the right.
Step 4: The Play Modes Tab

The play modes tab determines how simulations behave during playback. You can define success messages, error handling, and time delays based on the mode.

Note

Let's now edit global simulation settings. Changes here set the default for all simulations. To customize an individual simulation and override the global defaults, edit that simulation directly.

The image displays Play Modes tab within the Simulations settings. It shows two main sections where you can configure the behavior of Demo Mode and Practice Mode for learners.
Step 5: Demo Mode Settings

Demo mode allows learners to play the simulation in a guided walkthrough format. Let's set:

  1. Display delay: Set how long each slide appears.

Adjust the slider or enter a value.

  2. Default success message: Add a short title and message shown after the simulation is completed.

  3. Select Reset to restore defaults (optional).

  4. Select Save to apply changes.

The image displays Simulations settings page in the learning portal. It shows options to configure the playback delay and the default success message for Demo mode, with a preview in right panel.
Step 6: Practice Mode Settings

Practice mode lets users try the steps themselves, with optional feedback for mistakes. Let's set:

Error handling: Choose how the simulation responds to incorrect attempts.

  • Error Message: Show a custom message when a user clicks incorrectly.

  • None: No message (the user must select the correct element).

If Error Message is selected, configure:

  • Title: Error heading.

  • Body: Short guidance or hint.

  • Button text: Label for the action button.

  • Allowed attempts: Number of retries.

  • Click Reset to revert to the default error handling (optional).

Default success messages: Message is shown after the simulation ends

  • Title: A short, encouraging line.

  • Body: A follow-up message.

  • Click Reset to restore to the default message (optional).

  • Click Save to apply changes.

The image displays Simulations settings page within a learning portal. The Play Modes tab is selected, showing options to customize the error and success messages for Practice mode, with a preview of the pop-up messages displayed on the right.

When you update default simulation settings, you choose how to apply them:

  • All simulations [COMING SOON]: Updates all existing simulations.

  • New simulations only: Applies to simulations created from now on.

Note

Existing simulations with individually customized settings won’t be updated.

You have learned how to create, customize, and configure your course. The final step is to evaluate its effectiveness. Let’s dive into the analytics to see how.

Summary

In this lesson, you explored how to use and personalize the Learning Portal to provide a cohesive and accessible experience for learners.

Let's summarize what you have learned:

  • Central Learning Hub: The Learning Portal serves as a unified destination where users can search for content, resume in-progress items via the "My Learning" section, and view content relevant to their role and permissions.
  • Brand Personalization: Administrators can reinforce organizational identity by customizing the portal’s colors (Primary, Secondary, and Button) and typography (Primary and Secondary fonts).
  • Simulation Visuals: You can define global styles for simulations, including the shape and stroke of "Highlighted Areas" and the appearance of "Shapes" like text balloons used for guidance.
  • Global Play Mode Configuration:
    • Demo Mode: Set default slide display delays and success messages for automated walkthroughs.
    • Practice Mode: Configure error handling, such as allowing a specific number of attempts and providing custom feedback messages for incorrect clicks.
  • Implementation Prerequisites: Effective deployment requires Single Sign-On (SSO) configuration and the application of segmentation rules to ensure learners see only the content they are eligible to access.
