Builders can create different types of learning content to share knowledge, guide users through processes, or build full training programs. Content can be created manually, generated with AI, or imported from existing sources.

In the WalkMe Learning Arc dashboard, click the + Learning Content button in the top-right corner of the page. A popup will appear with three content types to choose from:

Microlearning

A short, focused lesson on a specific topic. Designed for quick "teachable moments" that deliver just the right knowledge at the right time.

Below the illustration is the heading Microlearning with the subheading Short and clear - share the key information in a quick lesson. At the bottom are two action buttons: a blue Start From Scratch button on the left and a greyed out Create with AI button on the right labeled Soon in a pink badge.

Course

A structured collection of related lessons that guide learners through a broader topic.

Below the image is the heading Course followed by descriptive text that reads Start fresh or bring microlearnings together to guide your learners step by step. At the bottom are two buttons: Start From Scratch on the left and Create with AI on the right.

Learning Journey [Coming Soon]

A complete learning experience that connects multiple courses into a single, cohesive path or curriculum.

Note

The Create with AI feature is only available to AI customers.

Creating WalkMe Learning Arc content with AI simplifies and accelerates the e-learning content creation process. By selecting the Create with AI option, users can generate course outlines and lesson structures based on a short summary and optional uploaded files, which the AI uses to tailor the content.

This automation reduces the manual workload, provides a solid starting framework, and allows for quick editing and customization making it easier to organize content, incorporate best practices, and ensure consistency across learning materials.

Getting Started with AI Course Creation

In this step-by-step guide, let's look at how to create a course with AI.

Step 1: Create a Course with AI

Select the Create with AI option on our Course module, the Create a Course with AI popup will open.

Here enter all of the course's information.

An illustration showing a person with a beard wearing blue clothing, sitting and working on a laptop computer. Below the illustration is the heading Course followed by descriptive text that reads Start fresh or bring microlearnings together to guide your learners step by step. At the bottom are two action buttons: Start From Scratch on the left and Create with AI on the right with a sparkle icon.
Step 2: Enter the Course Summary

Here, enter a short summary of what our course is about. This is a great way for the AI to get a succinct idea of what you're looking to achieve with our content.

A web form interface titled Create a course with AI with a subtitle Add a few details and AI will do the rest. The form uses a light blue and white color scheme with blue accent text for interactive elements.
Step 3: Enter the Course Prompt

Next, let's add our course instructions to guide the layout and content (optional). Then, upload relevant files to help customize the content (optional). These files can be used as a reference for the AI or included directly in the course.

While these are optional steps for course creation, it will enhance the overall quality of the course.

Tips for Prompting:

  • Upload files for referencing.

These files will help WalkMe Learning Arc generate more informed content.

    • When multiple files are uploaded, there may be a wait while the course outline is generated.

    • Builders can close the window and they’ll be notified through Learning notifications when the outline is ready.

  • Provide examples, specific details, and a chain of thought.

A light gray instructional box titled Add instructions to define your course layout and content with an [optional] label in the top right. The box contains a section labeled Your job is to: followed by four bullet points in blue text listing requirements: match output tone, depth, and structure to beginner learners; include placeholders for visuals such as screenshots, flowcharts, and UI captures when appropriate; consider the Course consistency Checklist.pdf and WalkMe Style Guide.pdf files for branding; and reference the ExampleCourse.pdf as an example of previously created courses.
Step 4: Review the Course Outline

After the course instructions are finalized, select Create Course Overview. Here is where the AI will generate a course outline. This outline can then be reviewed and adjusted.

Screenshot of an educational course interface titled How to Hire Effectively showing a left sidebar menu with five lessons and a quiz, and a main content panel on the right displaying Understanding Hiring Needs and Workforce Planning lesson details. The lesson overview describes strategic workforce planning, assessing organizational needs, and identifying gaps. The lesson includes three main elements: The Role of Workforce Planning in Effective Hiring, Assessing Organizational Needs and Identifying Gaps, and Defining Roles and Responsibilities, plus a self-check prompt. Navigation buttons at the bottom include Back, Cancel, and a purple Create Course button.

Now that the course outline has been created and accepted, it can be refined further.

The left sidebar shows a course outline with lesson topics. The main content area displays three sections: Techniques for Writing Clear Requirements, Tools for Requirement Documentation, and Methods for Validating Requirements, each containing explanatory text. The top navigation includes options for Test, Design, Videos, Screen Recording, Embedded Content, Simulation, Self-Check, and Attachment. A blue Proceeding button is visible in the top right corner, along with a timestamp showing Aug 2, 2025. At the bottom is a chat feature labeled My Onboarding.
