Using Add-On Based Integration

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Describe the function of the add-on
  • Recall from where administrators download the add-on

About Product Names in This Course

Note
  • The name SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network fully replaced SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway in January 2023, which itself replaced SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway (CIG) in May 2022. For simplification, this course will refer to SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network as the "gateway", except in cases where the retired name still appears in the user interface.
  • The name SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network, add-on for SAP ERP fully replaced SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway, add-on for SAP ERP in January 2023, which itself replaced SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway, add-on for SAP ERP in June 2022. The name SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network, add-on for SAP S/4HANA fully replaced SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway, add-on for SAP S/4HANA in January 2023, which itself replaced SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway, add-on for SAP S/4HANA in June 2022. For simplification, this course will refer to the add-on for SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA as the "add-on", except in cases where the retired name still appears in the user interface.
  • The name Ariba Network was retired in April 2022. Ariba Network was split, and functionality from Ariba Network was made available in SAP Business Network. For simplification, this course will refer to SAP Business Network and as the "network", except in cases where the retired name still appears in the user interface.

Retired names may also be present in audio narrations.

About Add-On Based Integration

Integrating SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA with SAP Ariba solutions using SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network uses one of the following methods: add-on based integration or API-based integration.

This course will focus on the add-on based method.

Add-On Based Integration: An Overview

Add-on based integration allows you to send or receive documents from SAP Ariba solutions and SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA systems. The add-on has multiple nodes on which you need to perform required configuration activities in a sequential manner. Nodes include:

  • Global Settings, which are the set of configuration activities you need to perform irrespective of the integration with any SAP Ariba solutions, such as SAP Business Network, SAP Ariba Strategic Sourcing solutions, or SAP Ariba Procurement solutions.
  • General Settings, which are the set of configuration activities you need to perform for a specific integration irrespective of any transactions/documents that you are adopting.
  • Application Specific Settings, which are the set of configuration activities you need to perform for that specific transaction/document.

This course will focus on configuring global settings.

Installing the Add-On

Add-on based integration requires administrators to install the applicable add-on:

  • SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network, add-on for SAP S/4HANA: This add-on is installed on an SAP S/4HANA (on-premise) system. It enables SAP S/4HANA to communicate with the network and SAP Ariba solutions through the gateway.
  • SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network, add-on for SAP ERP: This add-on is installed on an SAP ERP system. It enables SAP ERP to communicate with the network and SAP Ariba solutions through the gateway.

This activity is performed by an SAP BASIS administrator.

Administrators download the add-on software from the SAP Support Portal (formerly SAP Service Marketplace).

The SAP Add-On Installation Tool (transaction code SAINT) enables administrators to install and upgrade add-ons directly from their SAP system without the need to access the operating system or perform a system restart. Prior to installation, numerous import conditions are checked to ensure that only add-ons that fit the available SAP system are installed.

Now that you've learned about using add-on based integration, we'll move on to enabling integration through middleware.
