How to Inspect Resource Usage in Active Integration Flows

Let me demonstrate the Inspect feature in a live environment. So I am on SAP Integration Suite landing page and if you're really interested in understanding the different parts of the screen we have the help icon here and as and when you click it highlights the different parts of the screen and as and when you hover it will also link and it also explain what each part means and as we are interested in the Inspect feature yeah here also if you see it is highlighting and as when you click it will explain in detail what this feature is all about and it also gives you a link to the Help documentation. As we have already understood about this feature so I'll not click on this and let me close this as well. And now to dig deeper to this Inspect feature let me click on this also let me collapse this so here you see as of today we are inspecting the database and system memory. And in database also, we are covering two types of database. One, which is utilized while running on integration flows. And the one where we keep the monitoring data. So the first three sections are related to your integration flows. So within an iFlow, if you are using any flow step, which is using DB, it also then consume connections. So this section highlights that part. And then if you are also using some database related flow step, it will also utilize some storage. And also sometimes you have to keep the transaction open so that you can roll back and this highlights that transaction part. And the last part in this DUDB is about the monitoring storage. So if your throughput is high and if you're writing a lot of monitoring data, then also you will see this may grow, right? So, and the last is the system memory, right? will see how your system memory is doing against your integration flows. So in this demo we'll see how you can navigate different parts of this Inspect feature. So let me start with the connection. So what it is showing currently that you do not have any failed attempts so that's a good sign and all are having a successful attempts and as and when I click on this it will show you the average usage strength. So this is the default filter and it is showing from the past day and if you really want to dig deeper you can click on this and you can zoom out so zoom out will increase the problem space or the area space right in a way that you can focus more on this part and then if you again zoom in it will take you back and you can also check the trend based on the maximum usage so whatever is convenient for you can you can take that particular filter and from the time perspective we are showing past day but you can also choose past week past month and this is your first view so everything is green so that's a good sign as we can not show you something which is having a problem as of now but yeah let me see what are the other areas with which you can navigate. So you can also click on the show messages it will show okay which all messages contributing to this strength, and you can also inspect the usage. As and when you click, again, based on that filter, it is coming here. So let me click on the average. So based on the different filters, you can have the different contributors. And from the maximum database connection point of view, these are the top five iFlows, and this is a heat map. So heat map means the more darker the color, that means it is using the most of this, having the most of the usage. And yeah, global data store writer looks like across different timestamps is contributing the most. And in case you have some field connection attempts, it will also render a chart here, where it will show the top iFlows with field connection attempts, but because we do not have, so this we cannot see right now. And on click of this, you can copy this flow name so that you can also check in the integration flow editor. you can also show the integration content from here. And yeah, so that all features we have. And yeah, so show integration content will take you to the new screen, navigate. And it also allows you to copy the flow step ID so that you can also check the particular flow step which is creating a problem. So this is more or less from the connection usage part. And if I go back, the other is the data store. As I said, it has usage of database within your iFlows. So it's quite simple, right? Over the period of time, how much data you are using or writing. And again, it has a zoom out, zoom in feature. You can also see the data stores, which is contributing to this usage, right? So it navigates you here. And also what you can do is if I say, okay, let me see the inspect usage. So it is showing that out of these two data stores, which we have seen here, right? This are the one which is using the most and this is a local data and this is a global. If you understand these are the two type of data store what we have and yeah, that's all. And again, clicking on this, you can copy the name, you can see the database connection, you can see the data stores. And this way you can really dig deeper in understanding how your iFlows or how your data stores is really contributing to the memory. Now let's see the transactions. So transaction is like how much time you keep the database transaction open, right? So that you get the feature of rollback. What we recommend is less than five minutes is a good practice or green and five to 60 minutes are warning and then more than 60 minutes are critical. So here if you see it's more than five minutes, so that's why it's in warning. And on click of that, we can see the inspect usage. Again, we have a heat map. click of this yeah you can show the content you can simply inspect this integration flow and here now the focus is on a iFlow so based on a time filter based on this iFlow you can check your database connections how this iFlow is using the monitoring the database connections and the memory so this is from the iFlow focus point of view you can do different filters. Now the last is memory, so it is showing the memory footprint so we all know the message throughput and the message size contributes the most to the memory footprint and this is what it is showing how your log count is how your what is your maximum memory message size and you can just dig deeper on click of that you can inspect the usage this is again the top iFlows by memory allocation and here also you can copy the flow step so that you can see which particular flow step in an iFlow is writing the most so i'll just copy okay not this one yeah memory mix 2 so i copy the flow step and now I also navigate to this content yeah so it is showing this one let me go to the view deployed artifact and here you remember we have also this search step functionality so this is, let me search because i've already copied it, and see this is what is saying that this particular step which is deliberately allocating 100 MB in a script just to showcase you this scenario. So it is identifying that, hey, you are writing a lot of payload in memory, and this is the reason it is having a high usage. So if I just simply remove that and then deploy, you will see that that particular flow step memory footprint will reduce. And this is the idea, that will give you the memory footprint, the database connection, and all these things, categorized by your top integration flow so that you can optimize those iFlows on your own. So that's all from the inspect size. Down the line we may add more resource types as well but as I said this is your feature where you can really understand how your iFlows are contributing to different resource types and how you can optimize that.
