Modernizing Integration with SAP Integration Suite

Hello and welcome to lesson 2 with focus on strategizing integrations with the SAP Integration Solution Advisory Methodology. On this slide you can see a high-level overview graphics of the SAP Integration Suite. And in the middle the key integration scenarios supported by SAP Integration Suite, such as application-to-application integration, API management, business partner integration, event-driven integration, and so on. And I would like to highlight that SAP Integration Suite is much more than just a technical integration platform as a service. Namely, SAP Integration Suite comes with many accelerators. And these accelerators help you to jumpstart your integration scenarios. For example, the rich prepackaged integration content containing integration flows and mappings between different applications, and so on. And furthermore, SAP Integration Suite also offers a guided integration practice, which you can see highlighted here in the middle of the slide. And with this guided integration practice, you can design and govern the enterprise integration strategy within your organization. And this guided integration practice is embedded within the SAP Integration Suite as the integration assessment capability. and it is based on a methodology, namely the SAP Integration Solution Advisory Methodology. This methodology and the integration assessment capability basically provide you guidance when to use which integration technology. For example, what is the recommended integration technology for application-to-application integration or which technology to use for event-driven integration. On this slide you can see an overview of SAP Integration Solution Advisory Methodology. By the way, the abbreviation of the SAP Integration Solution Advisory Methodology is SAP ISA-M. First of all, SAP ISA-M provides a systematic approach via which you can design and govern the enterprise integration strategy within your organization. SAP ISA-M is open to SAP as well as non-SAP technologies. So you can apply it for any of your applications and systems within your enterprise. And secondly, SAP ISA-M delivers adaptable integration use case patterns, reference architectures, and best practices, which you can apply immediately within your company in order to govern your enterprise integration strategy. And last but not least, the SAP ISA-M covers all integration dimensions in today's hybrid and diverse environments. At least from our point of view. As mentioned before, the SAP ISA-M is adaptable. So in case you have any other integration use case patterns, you can adapt the integration dimensions delivered by SAP. So now, going to some more details of SAP ISA-M. So SAP ISA-M defines integration domains, integration styles, and use case patterns, and provides also recommendations for the technology that SAP would suggest for the different use case patterns. So let's now start on the left-hand side of this graphics. An integration domain can be, for example, on-premise to on-premise integration, on-premise to cloud to integration, cloud to cloud integration, and so on. And as a next step, moving to the middle of the slide, the integration domains can be broken down into integration styles such as process integration, data integration, et cetera. And the integration styles can again be broken down into use case patterns. For example, for the integration style process integration, there are use case patterns such as A2A integration, B2B integration, B2G integration, and so on. And there are also cross use case patterns such as API-centric integration or event-driven integration. And you can also define your own customer-specific use cases. And you can also delete any integration styles and use case patterns which are pre-delivered by the SAP ISA-M, however, which are not relevant for your company. And last but not least, as depicted here on the right-hand side of the slide here, the SAP ISA-M offers a mapping from the use case patterns to the integration technology recommended by SAP. For example, the cloud integration capability of SAP Integration Suite is the recommended integration technology for an A2A use case pattern. However, as mentioned, you can also adapt the recommendations from SAP and change the recommendation to another integration technology that might be more relevant for your enterprise. So now, in order to ease the efforts to apply the SAP ISA-M within your organization, we support now two approaches. One approach is the classical approach using templates in form of PowerPoint, Word documents, Excel sheets, et cetera. And the second approach is a more tool-based approach, namely via the so-called integration assessment capability of SAP Integration Suite. You can find further information and very detailed information about both approaches and how to apply the SAP ISA-M in the user documentation, which are linked here at the bottom of the slide. Let's now focus from now on the tool-based approach of applying the SAP ISA-M via the integration assessment capability of SAP Integration Suite. So the integration assessment capability of SAP Integration Suite provides out-of-the-box, pre-delivered content based on the SAP ISA-M. And this pre-built content can be categorized in three main areas. Namely, the basic settings based on the SAP ISA-M, the business applications and integration technologies, as well as, last but not least, the questionnaires. So let's start on the left-hand side with the settings. So with the basic settings based on the SAP ISA-M, in these settings area, you can basically discover all the pre-built content from SAP, such as SAP integration domains, integration styles, integration use case patterns, and so on. And besides just exploring the pre-built content from SAP, you can also maintain the content, for example, deleting certain integration domains which are not relevant for your organization or adding any new integration domain which is not included as part of our pre-delivered content. Moving now to the middle of the slide, namely the pre-built content containing SAP business applications and SAP integration technologies. In this section of the integration assessment cover, where you can again explore all the pre-delivered content from SAP for the business applications as well as the SAP integration technologies. And also here again, you can modify the pre-built content according to your needs and also add business applications and integration technologies as they might be relevant within your IT landscape. And last but not least, on the right-hand side, as you can see on the slide, there are also two set of questionnaires available within the Integration Assessment Capability of SAP Integration Suite, namely the business solution request, as well as the interface requests. The business solution request is usually the task of a business domain expert, who focuses more on the higher level business perspective. While the interface requests represent the technical view of the integration scenario, so the interface requests will typically be responded to by an integration expert in order to determine the integration technology to be used as outlined by the business solution request. Both the questionnaires, meaning the business solution request, as well as the interface request, can be adopted according to your needs. The integration assessment capability is available out of the box with the standard and premium edition of SAP Integration Suite, and the integration assessment capability can be directly activated via the home page of SAP Integration Suite. I hope with this lesson we could demonstrate that the SAP Integration Solution Advisor Methodology allows you to define and govern an enterprise integration strategy within your organization. And furthermore, the integration assessment capability within the SAP Integration Suite, which is based on SAP Integration Solution Advisor Methodology, helps you to execute and turn your enterprise integration strategy into reality.
