Simplifying and Accelerating Business Process Integrations

Modernizing Integration with SAP Integration Suite

My name is Sunny Kapoor. I am a Lead Product Manager for Cloud Integration Capability of SAP Integration Suite. In this session, we will briefly cover the Cloud Integration Capability of SAP Integration Suite. But, our main focus would be on exploring the latest and greatest innovations of the platform. The Integration Suite on SAP BTP is a comprehensive, versatile, hybrid and enterprise-grade integration platform that simplifies and accelerates integration projects by covering all the integration styles and landscapes. The SAP Integration Suite is a fully managed multi-cloud offering that encompasses a wide range of capabilities. It provides access to thousands of pre-built integrations and connectors which can be easily discovered and utilized through the SAP Business Accelerator Hub. For the purpose of this session, I will focus only on the highlighted Cloud Integration Capability of SAP Integration Suite, which enables the discovery, creation, and management of end-to-end business process integration scenarios, including application-to-application, business-to-business, and business-to-government integrations. The Cloud Integration Capability of SAP Integration Suite enables organizations to seamlessly connect their different applications and systems across homogeneous and heterogeneous landscapes to streamline their business processes, improve efficiency and facilitate seamless integration within the organization, and with external partners to achieve faster business outcomes. Here we follow four core integration principles. First, holistic integration technology portfolio, covering all the integration styles and patterns. Second, open integration so that we can integrate anything, anywhere. Third, out-of-the-box integration with thousands of pre-built integrations for SAP to SAP and SAP to third-party applications both in the cloud or on-prem for accelerated time-to-value. And lastly, AI-driven integration to accelerate the speed of intelligent integrations to attain desired business outcomes. It provides many other benefits and key capabilities. like it complements with our SAP process orchestration offering by reusing the SAP PIPO artifacts like message mapping, operation mappings, value mappings, etc. As it is in cloud integration, it also provides Edge Integration Cell as an optional customer-operated next-generation hybrid integration runtime within customer environment for local integrations and many more. Before we get into the details, it is crucial to understand the significance of enterprise-grade integration scenarios. While it is easy to create and run a simple integration flow, ensuring it runs productively requires consideration of non-functional aspects to avoid errors. To design such enterprise-grade integration flows, SAP mainly provides the two possibilities. First, clear and easy-to-apply guidelines in the documentation format that enable integration developers to design integration flows in a robust fashion to safeguard a company's mission-critical business processes. For each guideline, one or more example integration flows are also provided in SAP Business Accelerator Hub that helps you to quickly understand the topic. applying these learnings to all your productive integration flows is important as the shared tenant resources that can indirectly affect one another. Second, Inspect feature that allows you to monitor the usage of integration resources by active integration flows. It helps you identify flows that are consuming a significant amount of resources and take steps to resolve any critical issues. These insights can be used to optimize integration flow design and overcome resource bottlenecks. I'll cover this in detail in the latest slide. Now, with the latest increment, the same design guidelines that were published as product help and prepackaged content on SAP Business Accelerator Hub are now embedded within the software as rules that help integration developers to programmatically validate the integration flows against them. With this, customer can enable all or a subset of available design guidelines that they think are applicable for their organization's business needs. You can use this feature to validate not only your custom integration content, but also the prepackaged integration content that is shipped by SAP. The next innovation enhances the developer productivity. The search toolbar in the Integration Flow Editor in Cloud Integration has been extended, offering you a search for an existing flow step and message flows, that is, adapters, in both edit and read modes of an integration flow. You can execute a search by various parameters, including the type, name, and ID of the Flow Step and message flows. Upon executing a search, matching flow steps and message flows are displayed below the search field. When you execute a search in edit mode, you can also add a flow step to the integration flow. This extremely helpful feature helps you to easily identify a step causing an issue like a memory exhaustion, as you can copy a step ID in inspect screen and navigate to the flow view. In cloud integration, user permissions are granted in such a way that all tasks can be performed on all artifacts and data. Access policies provide a way to restrict access to the selected artifacts and their data. The latest improvement allows users to define access policies, to protect all artifacts of an integration package in addition to the artifact level access policies that were previously available. An access policy for an integration package restricts operations, such as exporting the package and operations on all artifacts within the package. If an access policy for an integration package is created, users without the corresponding role can't access any data stored at runtime and are unable to perform any activities on the deployed artifacts. This enhancement significantly simplifies administration efforts for tenant administrator while ensuring that access policy for individual artifacts within the package are still considered. Introducing the next enhancement in event-driven integration pattern, the Advanced Event Mesh Sender and Receiver Adapter. This adapter enables seamless connectivity within the SAP Integration Suite Advanced Event Mesh. It utilizes the Solace message protocol, that is SMF message protocol, and supports a variety of authentication modes, including basic client certificate and OAuth 2 authentication. Its comprehensive feature set ensures tighter and better integration with SAP integration suite advanced event mesh compared to the REST or AMQP protocol. The next is advanced self-service feature to simplify message analysis within the cloud integration. This powerful new feature allows users to effortlessly and precisely analyze the number of mid-term messages processed by active integration flows within the specified date range to identify trends. Notably, it is also differentiated between messages exclusively exchanged between SAP applications and chargeable ones, providing essential clarity for financial tracking and allocation purposes. This feature fully supports a time interval of up to 31 days and to leverage this functionality users are required to have the PI business expert and PI administrator role collections. Furthermore, the ability to download detailed reports for further verification and audit purposes increase transparency and oversight. The last in the list for today's session is Inspect feature that allows you to monitor the usage of integration resources by active integration flows. Each cloud integration talent comes with specific physical resources that are utilized by integration flows during runtime. One example of such integration resources is the available database connections. It helps you to identify flows that are consuming a significant number of resources and take steps to resolve any critical issues. These insights can be used to optimize integration flow design and overcome resource bottlenecks. The process involves continuously monitoring resource usage, identifying top consumers, optimize resource consumption by applying recommended based integration flow design guidelines and using improved integration flow deployed data to inform further resource usage. Please note that to utilize this feature, the role collection MonitoringDataRead needs to be assigned to your user. Currently with this, you can inspect database and system memory usage by the integration flows that are processed on the tenant. With this, we come to an end of this session. In summary, we briefly discussed the cloud integration capability of SAP Integration Suite and its latest and important innovations. I'll not repeat the same, but this slide will help you to recall the session learnings.
