Formatting Charts

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to apply display, appearance, and style settings to customize chart presentation and enhance insights in a Web Intelligence document.

Format: Charts

Charts (Classic Report Elements)

To view formatting settings, select a chart and then select the Report Element Format tab.

Highlighted chart editing toolbar provides options for display, appearance, style, and layout settings, each with specific controls explained in yellow callout boxes.

Display Settings

  • Display section: Title, Data label, Plot Area Title.
  • Display section \ Legend sub-section: Display, Title.
  • Hide Chart section: Hide when empty, Hide always, Hide when formula is true.
  • Dimensions and Measures section: Avoid duplicate row aggregation, Show measure values with empty dimension values, Show dimension values with empty measure values, Shows measure values when value = 0, Shows measure values for which the sum of values = 0.
  • Errors And Warnings section: Show alert when incompatible data present

Appearance Settings

  • Background section: Color and transparency.
  • Borders section: Border color, Border styles, Border thickness, All borders, No border, Border top Border left, Border bottom, Border right.

Style Settings

  • Palettes section: Color palette.
  • Pie section: Effect, Sector Edge Color, 3D Pie Chart Sector Edge.
  • 3D section: 3D.
  • Light And Shadow Effects section: Light And Shadow Effects, Shadow X Offset, Shadow Y Offset, Shadow Color, Shadow Rendering

Layout Settings

  • Size section: Width, Height.
  • Relative Position section: Left edge of this chart is, Top edge of this chart is.
  • Layout section \ Vertical sub-section: Avoid page breaks, Start on a new page, Repeat on every page.
  • Layout section \ Horizontal sub-section: Avoid page breaks, Start on a new page, Repeat on every page.

Charts (New Report Elements)

Display Settings

  • Hide section: Hide when empty, Hide always, Hide when formula is true.

  • Background section: No color, Color.
  • Background section \ Pattern sub-section: None, Skin, URL, File, Linear Gradient.
  • Borders section: Border color, Border styles, Border thickness, All borders, No border, Border top Border left, Border bottom, Border right.

Specific Settings

  • Current Palette section: Palette.
  • Title section: Text, Alignment.
  • Value Label section: On, Off.
  • Legend section: Position.
  • Font section: Use default settings.
