Sorting data in Web Intelligence is a feature that helps you organize your reports in a meaningful way by arranging the data in a specific order.
This can make it easier to analyze and understand the information you're working with.
Sorting rearranges data in your report based on the values in one or more columns. You can sort data in ascending order (from smallest to largest or A to Z), descending order (from largest to smallest or Z to A), or custom order.
Ascending Order or Descending Order
You can sort data in ascending order or descending order.
When you select:
- Ascending, the results are sorted from the smallest value at the top of the column to the largest value at the bottom. For example, 100, 200, 300, or California, Colorado, Florida.
- Descending, the results are sorted from the largest value at the top of the column to the smallest value at the bottom. For example, 300, 200, 10,0, or Florida, Colorado, California.
Add a Sort with Ascending Order or Descending Order
To sort your data in ascending or descending order, use the Build panel.

Custom Order
A custom order lets you sort data in a specific, non-alphabetic way.
For example, you can sort months chronologically (January, February, March) instead of alphabetically (April, August, December). You can also arrange sales regions by importance instead of by name.
Add a Sort with Custom Order
To create a custom sort, use the Build panel.

If a value does not exist in the database, you can add it as a temporary value in your document. For example, you can add a new store name as a temporary value before it is available in the database. This lets you use the new store name in your documents until it is added to the database.
Let's Summarize What You've Learned
- Sorting data in Web Intelligence helps organize reports for easier review and understanding.
- You can sort data in ascending, descending, or custom order using the Build panel.
- Custom sorting allows you to arrange data in a specific, non-alphabetic sequence, such as chronological months.
- Temporary values can be added for sorting, even if they do not yet exist in the database.
