Configuring Connectivity in SAP Transportation Management

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure integration between SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration and SAP Transportation Management.

Freight Collaboration Integration

Integration between SAP Transportation Management and SAP Business Network for Logistics can be done in two ways:

  • Direct Connection via SOAMANAGER
  • Integration via middleware – SAP Process Integration or SAP Integration Suite

Integration via Direct Connection

For integration via direct connection, the key steps involved are:

  1. Generate key-pair certificates with the Identity Authentication service.
  2. Import IAS certificate into SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM) via STRUST.
  3. Import SAP Business Network for Logistics certificate into SAP TM via STRUST.
  4. Create a system connection in SAP Business Network for the Logistics tenant.
  5. Set up Web services using SOAMANAGER for inbound services into SAP Business Network for Logistics.
  6. Set up outbound system connection in SAP Business Network for Logistics.

The architecture below shows the key components and integration protocols at various points of integration when using direct connection via SOAMANAGER.

Note

For a more detailed description of the steps, see How to Set Up Direct Connection from On Prem to Freight Collaboration.

Integration via SAP Integration Suite

For integration via SAP Integration Suite, the key steps involved are:

  1. Generate key-pair certificates with the Identity Authentication service.
  2. Import IAS certificate into SAP Business Network for Logistics.
  3. Import certificates into SAP Integration Suite.
  4. Maintain SAP Integration Suite outbound SOAP Adapter.
  5. Maintain SAP Integration Suite Inbound SOAP adapter.
  6. Maintain iflow endpoint of Integration Suite in the System Connections app in Business Network for Logistics.

The architecture below shows the key components and integration protocols at various points of integration when integrating via middleware such as SAP Integration Suite.

Summary

  • SAP Transportation Management integrates with SAP Business Network for Logistics using either direct connection or middleware such as SAP Integration Suite or SAP Process Integration.
  • Direct connection setup involves certificate management, system connections, and Web service configuration using SOAMANAGER.
  • Integration via middleware requires certificate import, SOAP adapter maintenance, and iflow configuration in SAP Integration Suite.
  • Both integration methods use secure architecture and standardized protocols to enable reliable data exchange between systems.
