Extending Migration Objects

Through the extensibility framework, some migration objects support custom fields created in the Custom Fields app. As long as the custom field has been made available to be used for other applications or APIs within the applicable business context (which is done in the Custom Fields app), and the migration object has been updated (which is done in the Migrate Your Data app), the Migration Cockpit will add it to the source structure of the relevant migration object to allow data to be entered for the field.

Alternatively, the Migration Object Modeler enables you to customize existing migration objects for a small set of released objects. The tool is accessed differently depending on the migration approach that will be used to migrate the data.

For data that will be migrated using the Staging Tables method, use the Model Your Migration Objects – Migration Object Modeler app to access the migration object modeler and edit migration object templates (before you migrate data). Note that it is only possible to enhance certain migration objects that are released by SAP. There is an SAP Note for each migration object that details the structures and fields that can be enhanced for that specific migration object. These SAP Notes can be accessed from SAP Note 2999428.

For example, if you need to add a field to the Customer migration object template to capture additional data, you would use the Migration Object Modeler to add this additional field. Depending on what each migration object allows, you may be able to change the following:

• Source Structures
• Target Structures
• Structure Mapping
• Field Mapping

You cannot change this type of information in a migration object template directly (when working with a template in Excel), because changing headers or adding/removing columns would corrupt the file and not allow you to import the template to the SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit. The Migration Object Modeler facilitates you making these changes to the structure or mapping of a staging table and updates the corresponding migration object template, so you can migrate data to the adjusted structure.

For data that will be migrated using the Direct Transfer method, use the Implementation Activities app to access the migration object modeler and edit migration object templates (before you migrate data).

When you open the Implementation Activities app, the system displays the SAP Business Configuration structure. You can find the activity Model Your Migration Objects under General Business Data → Data Management → Data Migration → Data Migration to SAP S/4HANA.
