Managing Curriculum

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain how Curricula are managed in SAP SuccessFactors Learning.

Managing Curricula

A Curriculum is a group of one or more items that are assigned and tracked as a group. Curricula may be used for items with retraining and Curriculum Requirements, which offer the user a choice in how they might be completed. Curricula may include sub-curricula so that the entire set rolls up to one overall completion status for the top-level curriculum. A Curriculum is considered complete when all of the required items are complete. Therefore, the status may change as users complete items for the first time and attempt to complete retraining each additional time. Failing an item or missing a retraining date may cause the curriculum to show a status of incomplete.

Curricula may be linked to assignment profiles that will assign them to users with certain criteria and automatically remove them from the users when they are no longer applicable.

Curriculum Types

This reference field serves the purpose of searching and reporting on the curriculum.

The Add New Curriculum screen is displayed.

Curriculum Requirements

Curriculum Requirements define a set of conditions the User must meet to receive a Complete curriculum status. The conditions are related to the number of hours or items the User must complete. Users are required to meet the defined conditions of the Curriculum Requirements and Items to complete the curriculum. Curriculum Requirements, like items, may have initial and retraining periods that determine overdue status and effective dates, determining when the requirement is required for curriculum completion. If requirements are added to a curriculum and made effective, all must be completed by a user to achieve curriculum completion. However, if the curriculum requirements are grouped, an OR relationship is created. Any of the requirements completed within a group satisfies the group, and if there are no items or sub-curricula, the curriculum is complete.

There are three types of Curriculum Requirements:

  • Number of hours (of a specified hour type)
  • Number of hours (of a specified hour type) from an item pool
  • Number of items from an item pool
The Curriculum Requirement to complete two items from an item pool is highlighted in a curriculum.

Curricula as Prerequisites

Curricula can be added to prerequisite groups and display on the Prerequisites tab for an Item. A User must have a curriculum status of Complete in order to be considered as having met the prerequisite.

An Instructor-Led course is displaying from the user interface side. The Prerequisites tab is selected and contains two curricula as prerequisites.
